NESCAC Baseball Tournament Seeds Determined

NESCAC baseball teams jockeyed for playoff positioning right up to the final day of the regular season.
 
In the end, four tiebreakers were needed to determine the seeds for the East and West Divisions.
 
In the East Division, Tufts and Trinity finished with identical divisional records of 8-4. In head-to-head competition, the Jumbos won two of three games against Bantams to earn the No. 1 seed. A tiebreaker was also needed to determine the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. Bowdoin and Colby finished with identical divisional records of 5-7. The Polar Bears won the three-game series against the Mules to earn the No. 3 seed in the East.
 
In the West Division, Amherst and Middlebury finished with identical divisional records of 7-5.  The Mammoths won the series against the Panthers to earn the No. 1 seed. Similarly, Wesleyan and Hamilton finished with identical divisional records of 6-6. The Cardinals won two of three games against the Continentals to earn the No. 3 seed. 

The NESCAC Championship begins with a best-of-three quarterfinal series on May 1-2 at the higher seed. The first game of the quarterfinal series will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 1. The series continues on Saturday, May 2 with the first game at 11 a.m. Game 3, if necessary, will be played 30 minutes after Game 2. Winners will advance to the Championship Weekend on May 8-10 at Trinity College.

Colby (E4) at Amherst (W1)
  • Amherst (22-10, 7-5 NESCAC West) is the top seed in the West Division in this tournament format for the fifth time and the first time since 2018.
  • The Mammoths are in the tournament field for the fifth year in a row and last advanced to championship weekend in 2024.
  • Colby (19-13, 5-7 NESCAC East) is the No. 4 seed in the East for the first time in program history.
  • The Mules have qualified for the tournament for the fifth consecutive season.
  • Colby reached the final day of the championship weekend last year, bowing out in Game 5.
  • Colby and Amherst have only met once in the NESCAC Tournament. The Mules defeated the Mammoths, 11-3, in the opening round of championship weekend in 2024.
  • Amherst has won five NESCAC titles, its last was in 2021 in a season shortened by the pandemic.
Bowdoin (E3) at Middlebury (W2)
  • Middlebury (19-12, 7-5 NESACC West) is the two-time defending NESCAC Champion and has won three of the last four championships.
  • The Panthers are the No. 2 seed in the West for the fourth time in team history and the first time since 2023.
  • Middlebury has won a quarterfinal series each of the last four seasons.
  • The Polar Bears are the No. 3 seed in the East Division for the second time in program history and the second time in three tournaments.
  • Bowdoin (15-18, 5-7 NESCAC) is looking to win a quarterfinal series for the first time since 2023
  • Middlebury and Bowdon have played just once in the NESCAC Baseball Tournament history. The Panthers posted a 12-10 victory in Game 4 of the 2006 championship.
Hamilton (W4) at Tufts (E1)
  • Tufts (24-9, 8-4 NESCAC East) is in the tournament field for the 22nd time and 11th consecutive year.
  • The Jumbos are the top seed in the East for the 14th time overall and the first time since 2023.
  • Tufts has won seven NESCAC Championships, its last in 2023.
  • Hamilton (15-16, 6-6- NESCAC West) earned a berth to the NESCAC Tournament for the fourth time in five seasons.
  • The Continentals are the No. 4 seed in the West for the first time.
  • The inaugural year the NESCAC Tournament moved to a quarterfinal series format (2022) is the last time the Continentals reached championship weekend.
  • Hamilton reached the championship series in 2022 and finished as NESCAC Runner-Up.
  • Tufts and Hamilton last met in the 2024 quarterfinals with the Jumbos winning the series.
Wesleyan (W3) at Trinity (E2)
  • Trinity (23-10, 8-4 NESCAC East) is the No. 2 seed in the East for the fourth time and the first time since 2016.
  • The Bantams have qualified for the tournament for the fifth year in a row and reached the championship weekend with a quarterfinal series win over Amherst last season.
  • Trinity has won the NESCAC title four times, its last in 2012.
  • Wesleyan (11-18, 6-6 NESCAC West) qualified for the NESCAC Tournament for the fifth year in a row and 13th time in team history.
  • The Cardinals at the No. 3 seed in the West for the second time (lats: 2022).
  • Wesleyan owns two NESCAC titles, winning the championship in 2014 and 2015.
  • Trinity owns a 6-2 edge in the NESCAC Tournament series. The Bantams won last meeting, Game 5 of the 2016 tournament.
