NESCAC Baseball Player of the Week
Tyler McCord – Amherst – Sr. – 2B – Langhorne, Pa.
Amherst went 5-1 in six games last week, and McCord was a driving force with 18 RBI in those six games. The senior batted .480 (12-25) with a .552 on-base percentage and a .720 slugging percentage. McCord walked four times and scored 11 runs. The second baseman knocked out four doubles and one triple among his 12 hits. He went 4-for-6 with five RBI and three runs scored in a 20-5 win over Macalester.
NESCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Aden Soroca – Hamilton – Jr. – New York, N.Y.
Soroca went 2-0 and pitched seven innings for the Continentals in Florida. Soroca started the week by pitching the first inning, allowing one unearned run and striking out the side in a 16-3 win against Knox. The junior struck out a career-high 10 batters, walked two, and allowed one hit and one unearned run in six innings of a 5-1 victory against Union.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – In a 9-3 win over Lawrence,
Nick Fassert (Katonah, N.Y.) struck out a career-high 12 batters in 6.0 innings of work. The sophomore earned the win, scattering six hits and allowing two runs while not walking a batter.
Bates – Jack Margiloff (Rye, N.Y.) slashed hit .417, slugged .500, and posted an on-base percentage of .619 in a 4-0 week for the Bobcats. The senior went 5-for-12 at the plate, scored seven runs, drove in four runs, drew seven walks, and stole five bases in five attempts. Margiloff also recorded an assist while playing errorless defense in the outfield. The Bobcats are 10-1, marking the best start through 11 games in Bates baseball history, which dates back to 1872 … In his first collegiate start,
Theo Zacharia (Manhasset, N.Y.) tossed five shutout innings against the University of Maine at Presque Isle to lead the Bobcats to victory over the Owls at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. The junior struck out a career-high eight batters and allowed just one hit on his way to picking up his second win of the season and lowering his ERA to 0.84 in 10.2 innings pitched for the 10-1 Bobcats.
Bowdoin – Senior
Will Logue (Santa Rosa, Calif.) pitched the Polar Bears to a 6-1 win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire as Bowdoin finished its Florida trip on a three-game winning streak. Logue went 5.0 innings of relief, striking out four and allowing one earned run to get the victory. Logue's performance lowered his season ERA to 0.69 on the season.
Colby – Senior
Tony Silva (Cranford, N.J.) went 5-for-8 with three runs scored and four RBI in a doubleheader sweep of St. Olaf. In the nightcap, the senior doubled in the first, homered in the third, and drove in a run with a single in the fourth to guide the Mules past the Oles, 4-3. Silva also hit safely against NYU and Wisconsin-La Crosse, bringing his total to seven hits on the week with an on-base percentage of .588 across the four games …
Kyle Bourque (Smithfield, R.I.) came on in relief in the fifth inning in the nightcap against St. Olaf, inducing a ground ball to escape a bases-loaded jam. The hurler held the Oles without a hit the rest of the way as the Mules turned a one-run deficit into a walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh.
Hamilton –
Michael Tallarida hit .412 (7-17) in a 4-0 week for the Continentals. Tallarida went 2-for-3 with a double, four RBI, and two runs scored in a 16-3 win against Knox. The senior doubled, walked, drove in a run, and scored twice in a 14-6 victory against Springfield. The first baseman doubled, walked, plated a run, and scored two more in a 5-1 triumph against Union. Tallarida singled, doubled twice, drove in four runs, and scored another in a 9-0 win against Salem State. He handled 35 chances in the field without an error.
Middlebury –
Sam Gersch (Tiburon, Calif.) reached base three times over two contests for the Panthers as they began their spring break trip. The rookie hit a double and scored a run in the squad’s 8-6 loss to Bethel. Gersch also had a timely sacrifice bunt that helped score two runs against the Royals. The outfielder also went 2-for-4 with another double in a 9-2 setback to Augustana. Gersch has tallied a hit in eight of 10 contests this season … Sophomore
Owen McCandless (Denver, Colo.) pitched two innings of no-hit baseball and walked only one in relief in a 9-2 loss to Augustana.
Trinity –
Timmy Domizio (Fairfield, Conn.) led the Bantams at the dish in a 4-1 run in Florida, batting .428 (9-21) with three doubles, six RBI, eight runs scored, and four stolen bases. The sophomore registered a hit in every game, including three multi-hit efforts. Domizio drove in three runs and scored twice in a win over Concordia-Wisconsin, along with a 3-for-4 day with two doubles and two runs scored in a victory over Edgewood.
Tufts – In a week where the Jumbos went 4-1,
Jack Kamin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) went 10-for-21 at the dish, recording at least one hit in each game. In a 10-2 win over No. 9 Trinity (TX), Kamin went 1-for-3 with an RBI. The sophomore hit his second home run of the season and went 4-for-5 with two RBI in a 9-4 victory against Roger Williams. In a 10-4 loss to Sage, the right fielder went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Emmet Christian (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was in command on the mound in a 10-2 victory over No. 9 Trinity (TX) and earned the win in a 5-3 win over Suffolk University. In Texas, Christian struck out six batters while allowing two earned runs on three hits in 4.2 innings of action. Against Suffolk, the right-hander struck out a season-high seven batters while allowing two earned runs throughout 6.0 innings.
Williams –
Marcus Burrell II (Temple Hills, Md.) batted .385 (5-13) with four RBI, three doubles, and two runs scored, in a 2-2 week for the Ephs. Grant Greiner (Falls Church, Va.) improved to 2-1 on the season, earning the win in six innings of work. The sophomore did not allow any runs and only three hits, while striking out five and walking two.
