NESCAC Baseball Player of the Week
Liam Foley – Bowdoin – Sr. – 1B – Wrentham, Mass.
Foley hit .438 with two home runs and eight RBI in four games. Both home runs came as the Polar Bears took two of three against Tufts, including a four-RBI performance in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.
NESCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Mahoney – Colby – So. – Sudbury, Mass.
Mahoney recorded two relief appearances last week, guiding the Mules to come-from-behind victories against Union and Middlebury. Across 4.2 innings last week, nine of his 14 outs were strikeouts, and he allowed just one single. The sophomore entered Tuesday's game against Union with the Mules trailing 7-5 in the seventh inning and the bases loaded with one out. Mahoney struck out the next two batters to escape the jam and proceeded to post two more clean innings without allowing a hit, striking out five additional Union batters to lead the Mules to a 10-7 comeback victory. On Saturday against Middlebury, Mahoney pitched the eighth and ninth innings as the Mules flipped a 6-5 deficit into a 7-6 victory.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – In a 2-2 week for the Mammoths,
Jackson Boyer (Medina, Ohio) hit .462 (6-13) with a .500 on-base percentage and a .846 slugging percentage. In four games, the rookie scored five runs and drove in six RBI. Boyer knocked out three doubles and a triple and was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.
Bates – Senior
Jack Margiloff (Rye, N.Y.) hit .500 (7-14), including going 4-for-5 with three runs scored, a home run, and two RBI in a 10-4 win over the Bantams in Game 2 of the three-game series. In total, Margiloff scored six runs, drove in three runs, and stole two bases in two attempts in the series. Margiloff sports a 1.148 OPS through 14 games this year … Junior
Nolan Hobbs (South Portland, Maine) allowed just one earned run in five innings pitched, striking out two to earn the win in a 10-4 victory over Trinity in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. Hobbs improved to 2-0 on the season and sports a team-best 1.29 ERA.
Colby – First-year
Jeb Burkhart (Houston, Texas) fueled the Mules to a come-from-behind victory over Middlebury in the final game of a three-game series. The first-year hit a three-run home run in the second inning as Colby worked to keep pace with the Panthers. Burkhart plated the winning run in the bottom of the eighth with his fourth RBI of the day as the Mules leapt in front for a 7-6 win.
Hamilton –
Lucas Herman (Malibu, Calif.) hit .364 (8-for-22), scored four runs, drove in three, walked twice, and was hit by a pitch twice in six games for the Continentals. Herman had a 10-game hit streak come to an end in the second game of a doubleheader against Williams. The senior went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, and three RBI in a 6-5 win against Elmhurst. Herman added two singles and two runs in a 9-7 victory against Williams in the first game of a three-game series …
Ethan Righter (Fairfield, Conn.) picked up two wins in two relief appearances for the Continentals. In a 9-7 win against Williams in Florida, Righter pitched the last 4.1 innings, allowed one earned run, and struck out five. The junior tossed the final 1.1 innings and allowed two unearned runs in a 6-5 victory against Elmhurst.
Middlebury –
Henry Ayers (West Caldwell, N.J.) helped Middlebury close its Florida spring break trip with a 4-1 mark. The rookie went 11-for-22 and scored 10 runs alongside four RBI and three extra-base hits. Ayers’ headlining performance came in a 4-for-4 day with four runs scored to lead the Panthers to a 12-0 victory in seven innings over Colby. The rookie also logged his first homer of the season in a 7-6 setback to the Mules. Ayers currently leads the NESCAC in slugging percentage (.759), batting average (.556), and hits (30) …
Dylan Knightly (Dedham, Mass.) pitched 2.1 innings in two appearances for the Panthers. The senior entered the eighth with the bases loaded and two outs against St. Olaf, Knightly induced a groundout to hold on to a one-run lead. The senior closed out the ninth to seal the 13-9 victory and pick up his second save of the season. Knightly earned his team-leading third save of the year against Colby, working a flyout with runners on first and second in the Mules’ final at-bats, in a 4-1 victory.
Trinity – Sophomore
Aidan Stevenson (Coto de Caza, Calif.) powered the Bantams at the dish in a series win against Bates, batting .455 (5-11) with two doubles and five runs batted in. Stevenson plated two runs with a stolen base in an 11-2 win on Friday, followed by a 4-for-7 effort with two doubles and three RBI in a doubleheader split to close the series … Senior
Joe Capano (Scarsdale, N.Y.) earned his first victory of the season in an 11-2 win over Bates in the series opener. Capano scattered six hits and allowed two runs across seven frames with four punchouts.
Tufts – In a week where the Jumbos went 2-2,
Malcolm Whitfield (Dedham, Mass.) went 5-for-16 at the plate for a .313 batting average with four runs, two stolen bases, an RBI, and one walk. In a 7-3 victory over UMass Boston, the senior went 2-for-4, crossed home three times, and stole a base. In a 6-3 win over Bowdoin, Whitfield went 2-for-5 and scored once … Senior
Cole Donato (Walpole, Mass.) earned his fourth win of the season to remain undefeated in the spring in a 6-3 win in Game 1 of the series versus Bowdoin to open conference play. In 7.0 innings of work, Donato recorded a career-high nine strikeouts while allowing three earned runs on six hits.
Wesleyan – James Marsden (Ivoryton, Conn.) totaled six hits, including three multi-hit games, out of four contests for the Cardinals. Marsden started with a 2-for-5 showing with one home run and two runs scored in a 14-9 win over Hartford. The senior went 2-for-4 in both ends of Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Amherst, with three of his four hits going for doubles … Rookie
Conor Humowiecki (Philadelphia, Pa.) tossed 4.2 innings of relief, allowing three hits and one unearned run while striking out three to pick up the win in a 9-4 Wesleyan victory over Amherst to secure the series win over the Mammoths.
Williams –
Oliver Rey (Newport, R.I.) went a combined 10-of-21 (.476) batting, with five RBI, five runs, and one double, in a 3-2 week for the Ephs. The sophomore went 2-of-4 batting, with two RBI and two runs, in a nine-inning 12-5 NESCAC West Division win over Hamilton …
Peyton Rose (Needham, Mass.) earned the win in a nine-inning 12-5 Ephs' NESCAC West Division win over Hamilton. The senior started and worked six innings, only giving up three earned runs and seven hits, while striking out five.
