NESCAC Baseball Player of the Week
Luis Saldivia – Trinity – Jr. – SS – Princeton Junction, N.J.
Saldivia paced Trinity at the plate in a perfect 4-0 week for the Bantams, including a three-game sweep of Colby to grab sole possession of the top of the NESCAC East Division. Saldivia posted a 1.434 OPS with a .625 batting average, tallying 10 hits, including two doubles, with four RBIs, three runs scored, and four stolen bases. He also played the field cleanly with no errors in 26 chances in the infield. The junior went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in a win over Nichols, followed by another two-hit performance in a series-opening win over Colby. Saldivia went 5-for-8 with two RBIs and two runs scored across a doubleheader sweep of the Mules.
NESCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Chase Zidlicky – Middlebury – Fy. – Riverside, Ill.
In his lone appearance of the week, Zidlicky pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three baserunners and striking out eight over seven innings of work as the Panthers cruised to a 8-0 victory to begin Saturday’s doubleheader at Wesleyan. The rookie’s eight strikeouts are tied for the most in a single conference game this season and set a new career-high. Zidlicky’s seven innings on the bump are the most by a Panther pitcher this season.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Charlie LaFreniere (Norwalk, Conn.) batted .571 (8-14) in a 2-2 week for the Mammoths, with a .632 OBP and a .714 slugging percentage. The junior had nine RBI in four games and scored twice. LaFreniere knocked out two doubles and did not commit an error in right field. He went 5-for-6 in the two Amherst wins …
Saahi Jetti (Des Moines, Iowa) hurled a complete-game victory over Williams, improving to 6-1 on the season. The rookie allowed four hits and two walks while striking out eight batters over seven innings in a 7-1 victory.
Bates – Henry Prince (McLean, Va.) hit safely in all five games while batting .421 with two home runs and 11 RBI last week. The junior hit grand slams in back-to-back games against Southern Maine and Saint Joseph's to start the week. Prince drove in seven runs and finished just a triple shy of the cycle in the 14-2 win over the Monks …
Max Dio (Wellfleet, Mass.) picked up the win in his first start of the season on Tuesday, going five innings and allowing just two runs while striking out four against Saint Joseph's. The senior also recorded a pair of outs out of the bullpen against Tufts without allowing an earned run.
Bowdoin – Senior
Will Bordes (Groton, Mass.) batted .400 as the Polar Bears split a four-game set with Hamilton, homering twice, scoring five runs with four RBI.
Colby –
Patrick Shrake (Chicago, Ill.) collected eight hits last week, including a 4-for-5 performance in a 7-5 win at Husson. The junior had another multi-hit game in the opener against Trinity, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Shrake ranks fifth in the NESCAC with a .402 average and second with 43 hits on the year ...
Keeler Vogt (North Yarmouth, Maine) held opponents scoreless in two relief appearances last week. On Wednesday, the first-year earned the save against Husson with two innings of 1-hit ball, and returned Saturday to hold Trinity without a run in four innings of Game 2. Vogt averaged one strikeout per inning across his six innings.
Hamilton –
Gianni DiCerbo (Altamont, N.Y.) hit .417 (5-for-12) with six runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base, and was hit by a pitch three times as the Continentals split a four-game series at Bowdoin. In a 16-4 win in the opener, DiCerbo went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. The junior singled and scored a run in a 7-6 victory in Saturday's opener …
Andrew Millington (Milton, Mass.) pitched two scoreless innings of relief in a 10-9 loss in eight innings at Bowdoin in the sophomore's first collegiate appearance on the mound for the Continentals. Millington allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
Middlebury –
Henry Ayers (West Caldwell, N.J.) hit .438 in a 3-1 week for the Panthers. The rookie posted six runs scored, five doubles, and two runs batted in a NESCAC West sweep of Wesleyan. Ayers’ best performance came in the team’s 7-3 victory in the final game versus the Cardinals, reaching base twice and crossing home plate four times. The catcher paces the NESCAC in batting average (.462), total bases (72), and slugging percentage (.679).
Tufts –
Owen McKiernan (Durham, N.H.) went 7-for-9 at the plate as the Jumbos held a 3-1 record last week with a 2-1 loss against Babson and three conference wins against Bates. In the first of three matchups against the Bobcats, the senior was a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored to fuel a 12-2 victory. In the final contest of the weekend, McKiernan was perfect at the plate again, going 2-for-2 with a home run, one RBI, three runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base in an 8-4 win … In one starting appearance last week,
Emmet Christian (Chapel Hill, N.C.) picked up his fourth win and second complete game of the season in a 6-1 NESCAC victory over Bates. The sophomore held the Bobcats scoreless through the first six frames before allowing one run in the final inning. Christian finished with a career-high eight strikeouts, while allowing one earned run on three hits in the seven-inning game.
Williams –
Oliver Rey (Newport, R.I.) hit .556 (9-15), with multi-hit efforts in four of the five games. The sophomore scored six runs, knocked out a double, and drove in one run during the week. Rey finished 3-for-4 in the batter's box, with two runs and one RBI, in a 6-3 win at Amherst on Saturday … Starter
Matt Keene (Cohasset, Mass.) earned the win on the mound, going seven innings and only allowing three runs and four hits, in a 6-3 win at Amherst on Saturday.
