NESCAC Baseball Player of the Week
Will Burns – Colby – Jr. – 1B – Reading, Mass.
Burns led Colby at the plate in a sweep of Bates. In the opener, the junior reached base safely in four of his five plate appearances, scoring three runs. In Game 1 on Saturday, Burns went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in two of Colby's three runs, including a walk-off solo shot in the bottom of the 10th. In the series finale, Burns scored twice more and drove in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh to set up Colby's second walk-off of the day, one batter later. Across the three-game set, Burns went 6-for-11, scoring seven runs, with an on-base percentage of .600.
NESCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Mark Kovach – Hamilton – So. – Matawan, N.J.
Kovach pitched all nine innings in a 6-2 win against Middlebury on Sunday. Kovach struck out five, walked one, scattered seven hits, and allowed one earned run. It was just the third nine-inning complete game by a Hamilton pitcher since 2013. Kovach's performance gave the Continentals their first series win against the Panthers since 2015.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Charlie LaFreniere (Norwalk, Conn.) batted .462 (6-13) with three doubles in a 3-2 week for the Mammoths with an on-base percentage of .588 and a slugging percentage of .692. The junior knocked in four runs and scored twice. Amherst swept Tufts in a Saturday doubleheader with walk-off wins of 3-2 and 9-8. In the nightcap, Amherst trailed 8-0 before storming back. LaFreniere's walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth was the winner. He also had a two-run double in an 8-run seventh inning that brought Amherst within one run at 8-7 …
Walker Dellinger (Houston, Texas) pitched three scoreless innings – the only baserunner he allowed reached on an error – to allow the Mammoths to rally from an 8-0 deficit to defeat Tufts, 9-8, in walk-off fashion. The sophomore struck out two and retired the final five Jumbos he faced via the ground ball. In the process, he picked up his first win of the season.
Bates – Gibby Sullivan (Yarmouth, Maine) hit .438 over four games last week, hitting safely in all four contests. The senior started the week by going 1-for-3 with two runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base in a win over Husson. In Game 2 of a twin bill against Colby, Sullivan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and six RBI to give him 45 RBI this year, setting a new Bates record … Sophomore
Charlie Bushley (Cohasset, Mass.) delivered his second straight quality start on Saturday, holding Colby to two runs over six innings pitched in a no-decision.
Bowdoin – First-year
Tommy O’Donnell (Boston, Mass.) had a strong week at the plate for the Polar Bears. Over four games, O’Donnell went 7-for-14 (.500) with six runs scored, four RBI, a double, a triple, two walks, and a stolen base, without recording a strikeout, posting an on-base percentage of .588.
Colby – On Friday, senior
Thomas Rioux (Derry, N.H.) hurled a complete game in a 9-1 win in the series opener versus Bates. Rioux went nine innings, scattering five hits on 117 pitches with four strikeouts and one earned run. Rioux improved to 4-1 on the season.
Hamilton -
Lucas Herman (Malibu, Calif.) hit .364 (4-for-11) in a three game series against Middlebury. In a 6-2 win on Sunday, Herman had two hits and scored two runs. In a 10-4 loss in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader, the senior doubled twice and drove in three runs. Herman walked twice and scored a run in Hamilton's 9-7 win in Saturday's opener.
Middlebury –
Joe Basso (Stonington, Conn.) had a solid week at the plate, going 8-for-14 in a 2-2 week. In the NESCAC West series against Hamilton, Basso logged seven hits, three runs scored, and three runs batted in. The junior’s best performance came in the squad’s 10-4 victory over the Continentals in Game 2 of a doubleheader, knocking in a season-best three Panthers and tying his career high with three hits … Junior
Emmet George (Mill Valley, Calif.) tallied his first win of the season in Game 2 of a divisional doubleheader with Hamilton. The right-hander struck out a season-high seven batters and allowed only four hits and one earned run over six innings of work to help the Panthers to a 10-4 triumph. George’s outing on the mound was his longest of the season.
Trinity –
Pete Beisel (Stony Brook, N.Y.) helped guide Trinity to a 3-1 record last week, moving Trinity to 16-7 on the season and 4-2 in NESCAC play. The sophomore batted .615 (8-13) with three doubles, a triple, and a home run, seven runs scored, five RBI, and a stolen base. In 10-9 win over Saint Joseph (CT), Beisel tallied two hits, including a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, with two runs scored, followed by a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored and an RBI in the series opening win over Bowdoin. The sophomore added a two-run home run with two runs scored in a 10-6 win over the Polar Bears in the series finale … Senior
Joe Capano (Scarsdale, N.Y.) collected his second victory of the season in a 9-5 victory over Bowdoin in the series opener. Capano surrendered one unearned run while scattering four hits with three strikeouts across seven innings to earn the win.
Tufts –
Tom Pender (Milton, Mass.) went 7-for-16 (.438) at the plate with eight runs scored, eight RBI, four doubles, three HBPs, and a walk as the Jumbos held a 3-2 record in five games against MIT (1), Amherst (3), and No. 22 Endicott (1). In a 15-3 victory over MIT, the first year was 1-for-2 at the dish with two RBI, two plated runs, and a HBP. In the first of a three-game slate against Amherst, Pender went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, two RBIs, two doubles, and a HBP to help Tufts capture a 10-5 victory …
Mark Herlihy (Wellesley, Mass.) picked up his first two wins of the season in two starts last week against MIT and No. 22 Endicott. Across both appearances, the junior collected nine strikeouts and allowed just one earned run on five hits in 11 innings. In a 15-3 seven-inning victory over MIT, Herlihy finished with four strikeouts and one earned run allowed on one hit in five innings of work. In an 11-6 win over No. 22 Endicott, the junior struck out five batters while allowing no earned runs in six innings.
Wesleyan – Junior
Jake Acker (Holtsville, NY.) hit .625 across four games last week, going 5-for-8 at the plate with four walks, three RBI, two stolen bases, and four runs scored. Acker did most of his damage in a Saturday doubleheader at Williams as he went 4-for-5 in the two games with three walks, two stolen bases, three RBI, one double, and three runs scored …
Shamus Kelly (Waltham, Mass.) went six innings on Saturday, allowing four runs (3 earned) with two strikeouts as the sophomore right hander earned a win in a 10-4 victory over Williams that clinched the 2026 Little Three title for the Cardinals.
Williams –
Dave Mosrie (Weddington, N.C.) went 7-of-13 batting, with three doubles, three RBI, and three runs, in a three-game NESCAC series against Wesleyan. The senior went 4-for-5 batting, with three runs, one RBI, and one double, during a 13-5 win in the second game of a doubleheader against the Cardinals Saturday. Mosrie also went 2-for-4 in the batter's box, with two RBI and one double, at Wesleyan on Friday …
Lucas Asanovic (Easton, Conn.) earned his first win of the season on Saturday, a 13-5 victory in the second game of a doubleheader against Wesleyan. The sophomore pitched the fourth and fifth innings, giving up no hits, walks, or runs, while striking out a pair of batters. Asanovic also pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning against visiting Skidmore on Wednesday.
