The NESCAC has released its Players of the Week for the week ending on April 5. The conference recognizes student-athletes in each sport each week for their contributions to their teams, based on information provided by the athletic communications offices on each campus. During the spring season, baseball, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, and softball players of the week will be announced on Mondays. On select Tuesdays, track & field performers of the week will be announced.
NESCAC Baseball Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Tate Bannish – Tufts – Fy. – OF – Wellesley, Mass.
Bannish batted .533 with a double, triple, home run, and two stolen bases across four appearances last week against Rhode Island College and NESCAC foe Colby to lead the Jumbos to a 3-1 record. The first-year plated five runs and drove in five runs while going 8-for-15 at the dish. In a 15-7 victory over the Mules in Game 2 of a Saturday doubleheader, Bannish was 5-for-6 at the plate with a home run, a triple, and three runs scored.
NESCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Nick Fassert – Amherst – So. – Katonah, N.Y.
Fassert threw 6.1 innings of no-hit ball versus Middlebury and left after eight innings with a 3-1 lead. The sophomore allowed only two hits and walked one while striking out 11 batters over those eight innings, ultimately getting a no-decision.
NESCAC Softball Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Kristyn Carroll – Middlebury – Sr. – OF – Kinnelon, N.J.
Carroll went 10-for-18 at the plate in a 5-1 week for the Panthers. The senior had three multi-hit games in the stretch, headlined by a 3-for-3 effort with two doubles and three runs batted in a 10-2 victory in five innings over Keene State. Carroll also crossed the plate nine times and swiped four bases. She sits near the top of the conference in multiple offensive categories, including slugging percentage (.833), batting average (.528), hits (38), and runs (27).
NESCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week
Abby Moravek – Amherst – Sr. – Libertyville, Ill.
Moravek threw a two-hit shutout in a 3-0 win over Wesleyan on Saturday, striking out a career-high 13 batters while walking just three. In the process, the senior surpassed the 250-strikeout milestone for her career, going from 246 to 259. It was her first shutout of the season. Amherst was 1-1 for the week.
NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Ben Burns – Wesleyan – Sr. – A – Suffern, N.Y.
Burns returned to the lineup and totaled nine goals and one assist for 10 points in two home wins for Wesleyan last week. The senior started with a five-goal game, adding one assist for six points in a 16-4 win over Amherst. It was the largest Cardinal win over the Mammoths in the series history (69 all-time games). Burns added a four-goal outburst against Middlebury as the Cardinals led wire-to-wire in a 14-6 victory on Saturday.
NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Eleanor Helm – Tufts – Fy. – A – Loudonville, N.Y.
In a 2-0 week for the Jumbos, Helm tallied six goals and 10 assists for a total of 16 points in wins over Williams and Connecticut College. Helm also added 10 ground balls, including eight against Williams, the highest total for a Jumbos field player since 2017. In the win over the Ephs, first-year attack became the 15th player in program history with double-digit points in a game with 10 against Williams (5G, 5A). Helm scored one goal and assisted on five more against Conn. College on Saturday. Helm leads the Jumbos in points (49) and assists (25).
