The NESCAC has released its Players of the Week for the week ending on April 26. The conference recognizes student-athletes in each sport each week for their contributions to their teams, based on information provided by the athletic communications offices on each campus. During the spring season, baseball, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, and softball players of the week will be announced on Mondays.
NESCAC Baseball Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Jack Kamin – Tufts – So. – OF – Shrewsbury, Mass.
Kamin batted .533 (8-15) with multiple hits in three of the four games, scored a run in every game, and drove in four RBI to help the Jumbos to a 3-1 record in games against Roger Williams and Trinity. In a 5-3 win over Roger Williams, Kamin went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, a stolen base, an RBI, and a run scored. In the three-game series versus Trinity, Kamin hit .545 (6-11) with four runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, and a home run.
NESCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Mark Kovach – Hamilton – So. – Matawan, N.J.
Kovach pitched all nine innings, struck out seven, scattered five hits, walked three, and allowed one run in a 4-1 win in the opener of a three-game NESCAC West Division series at Amherst. Kovach shut out the Mammoths over the last eight innings. The sophomore is the only Hamilton pitcher with two nine-inning complete games in the same season in the last 14 years.
NESCAC Softball Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Abby Alper – Trinity – Sr. – OF – Weston, Fla.
Alper led the Bantams to victories over Bowdoin and Colby, posting a 1.101 OPS out of the leadoff spot with six hits, six runs scored, four stolen bases, three walks, and two RBI. Against the Polar Bears, Alper went 3-for-6 with four runs scored, two stolen bases, and an RBI, while tallying two putouts with an assist from centerfield to prevent a game-tying run. The senior added a 3-for-7 day with two runs scored, two stolen bases, a double, and an RBI in a split with the Mules.
NESCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week
Ella DeCrescenzo – Wesleyan – Jr. – Brooklyn, N.Y.
DeCrescenzo strung together back-to-back complete game efforts, allowing no earned runs in 14 innings of work to earn a pair of wins over Colby and Williams. The junior opened the weekend going the distance in a complete game with no walks, three strikeouts, and one unearned run allowed as the Cardinals defeated the Mules 5-1 to clinch a sweep of Colby on Saturday. DeCrescenzo followed up with a complete game shutout, allowing eight hits and just one walk with one strikeout as Wesleyan defeated Williams 2-0 to earn a Sunday split on the road.
NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Hudson Greene – Bowdoin – So. – A – Arlington, Va.
Greene pitched in six goals and four assists last week for the unbeaten Polar Bears and extended his hot stretch of play, scoring 10 goals and six assists in Bowdoin's last three contests. Greene tied for a team-high four goals in the Polar Bears’ midweek win at Tufts, breaking the Jumbos’ 42-game winning streak. The attack added two goals and four assists in the NESCAC Quarterfinal win over Williams. Bowdoin will host the remaining rounds of the NESCAC Tournament on May 2-3.
NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Alex Lesko – Trinity – Sr. – A – Villanova, Pa.
Lesko led the Bantams to a pair of victories over fifth-ranked Amherst, tallying seven points with five goals and two assists. In a 10-7 win over the Mammoths to earn home-field advantage in the NESCAC Tournament, Lesko potted a goal with two assists. During the NESCAC Quarterfinal battle, Lesko netted two first-quarter goals to keep things close and then ignited a three-goal spurt in the fourth to propel Trinity to the 9-8 victory.
