NESCAC Weekly Release - April 14, 2025

The NESCAC has released its Players of the Week for the week of April 14. The conference recognizes student-athletes for each sport based on their contributions to their team each week. This week's release includes the Player of the Week selections for baseball, softball, and men's and women's lacrosse.
 
Baseball | Weekly Release
Player of the Week
Jack Sampedro – Amherst – Sr. – UT – Miami Beach, Fla.
Sampedro batted .455 with a .571 on-base percentage and a .455 slugging percentage to help Amherst win the NESCAC series versus Williams. The senior also had four RBI and two runs scored. Sampedro’s week was highlighted by a bottom-of-the-ninth, two-out, walk-off single in Game 1 against Williams to give the Mammoths a 2-1 win. Sampedro also pitched the top of the ninth to finish off a combined no-hitter by the Mammoths’ pitching staff.

Pitcher of the Week
Nick Fassert – Amherst – Fy. – P – Katonah, N.Y.
Fassert tossed eight no-hit innings and combined with Jack Sampedro for a no-hitter in a 2-1 walk-off victory over Williams in the opening game of the NESCAC series. In his longest outing of the year, the rookie issued just two walks and struck out five to match his season high. 

Softball | Weekly Release
Player of the Week
America Rangel – Amherst – Sr. – IF/OF – Poca Rivera, Calif.
Rangel batted .643 in a 3-2 week for the Mammoths, with an on-base percentage of .667 and a slugging percentage of  .714. The senior knocked in one run and scored a team-high seven for the week. In an 8-7 walk-off win over Bates, Rangel was 4-for-4 with a double, RBI, and two runs scored.

Pitcher of the Week
Sophia DiCocco – Tufts – Gr. – Bozrah, Conn.
 Tufts split series at Middlebury and Williams with DiCocco earning both pitching victories in complete games. The graduate student went seven innings allowing just one unearned run against the Panthers on Friday. At Williams, DiCocco pitched the fourth through seventh innings scoreless helping Tufts overcome a 3-1 deficit to win 4-3. For the week she was 2-0 with seven strikeouts with one walk in 14 innings.

Men's Lacrosse | Weekly Release
Casey Ryan – Bowdoin – So. – A – San Diego, Calif.
Ryan, a sophomore attack, propelled the Polar Bears to a pair of NESCAC road wins last week, sparking the offense with five goals and 10 assists in the two games. At Colby on Wednesday night, Ryan spearheaded the Polar Bear with a goal and four assists in a 15-5 win. Saturday at Williams, Ryan scored four goals and six assists, including three goals and two helpers in an 11-1 second-half run as Bowdoin pulled away for an 19-8 victory. Ryan is second in the league in both assists (37) and points (56) this season.
 
Women's Lacrosse | Weekly Release
Hope Shue – Middlebury – Sr. – A – Dover, Mass.
Shue totaled 13 points (7G, 6A) and 13 draws in a 2-0 week for Middlebury. Against No. 2 Tufts, the senior led all players with eight points (4G, 4A) alongside a career-high 10 draw controls to propel Middlebury to a 16-15 win. Shue leads the NESCAC in a host of offensive categories, including goals (48), goals per game (3.69), and total points (69).
