Tufts & Wesleyan to Square Off for a Spot in the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Game

Playing in its third straight Final Four game, Bowdoin’s furious comeback effort against RIT fell short at Whittier Field. RIT posted a 16-12 victory over the Polar Bears to advance to the national championship game.
 
The Tigers will face the winner of the other Final Four game, an all-NESCAC matchup between Wesleyan and Tufts in Medford, Mass. set for Sunday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. The national championship game will be played in Charlottesville, Va. at Scott Stadium on the campus of the University of Virginia.
 
Tufts def. York (Pa.), 22-9 | Box Score
Tufts wasted no time asserting its dominance, erupting for nine straight goals to open the game and cruising past York College (Pa.) 22-9 in an NCAA Quarterfinal game at Bello Field in Medford, Mass.
 
Brooks Hauser led the two-time defending national champions with five goals and three assists, while Chase Beyer added four goals and three assists. Garrett Kelly chipped in three goals as 11 different Jumbos found the back of the net. Tufts outshot York 46-38 and dominated the ground ball battle 38-27.
 
The Jumbos built a 10-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, pushing the margin to 13-5 at halftime before an eight-goal third quarter put the game out of reach. Drew Bossi capped the Tufts scoring with a man-down goal just 29 seconds into the fourth.
 
Cory Bergmann paced York with three goals, while Nate Schilling and Gavin Gismondi each added two. Jack Old earned the win in net for Tufts with nine saves over 48 minutes. The Jumbos (20-1) advance to the NCAA semifinals in pursuit of their third consecutive national championship.

Wesleyan def. Christopher Newport, 15-7 | Box Score
Wesleyan erupted for seven unanswered goals in the third quarter to break open a tight game and advance past Christopher Newport, 15-7, in an NCAA Quarterfinal at Bello Field in Medford, Mass.
 
Ben Burns paced the Cardinals with five goals, while Gavin Lechner and Matt Morrow each added three. Seven different Wesleyan players scored as the Cardinals outshot Christopher Newport 39-31 and held the Captains scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Christopher Newport led 3-1 midway through the first quarter before Wesleyan rallied to tie it 3-3. The teams were level at 5-5 entering the third period, but the Cardinals took control immediately, scoring five straight goals before CNU's Jamie Smith converted a man-up goal to briefly make it 8-6. Wesleyan answered with four more in rapid succession to push the lead to 12-7 after three and salted the game away with three unanswered in the fourth.
 
Smith finished with three goals to lead Christopher Newport, with Kevin Miller contributing four assists. Conor Selfridge made 11 saves in net for Wesleyan to earn the win.
Wesleyan (15-4) advances to the NCAA Semifinals, where it will face NESCAC foe, Tufts.

RIT built a commanding 10-4 halftime lead and survived a spirited fourth-quarter rally by Bowdoin to advance past the Polar Bears 16-12 in an NCAA Semifinal game at Whittier Field in Brunswick, Maine.
 
Ryan Sanders paced the Tigers with five goals, while David Charney added four and Erich Acton contributed two goals and two assists. Alex Zborowski made seven saves in net to secure the win.
 
After RIT raced to a 7-3 advantage in the second quarter, Bowdoin showed life with a pair of goals to trim the deficit to 10-4 at halftime. The Tigers responded with a dominant third period, outscoring Bowdoin 5-1 to push the lead to 15-6 with one quarter remaining.
 
Sam Raye-Steiner kept the Polar Bears alive in the fourth with his fifth goal of the game, and Casey Ryan added three more in the final period to finish with four goals. But Bowdoin couldn’t trim the deficit below four. Bowdoin finishes its season with a 19-2 record.
 
RIT advances to the national championship game, where it will face another NESCAC team in either Tufts or Wesleyan.
