NESCAC Rowing Championships Set for May 10 at Lake Quinsigamond

HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC Men’s & Women’s Rowing Championships are set for Sunday, May 10 at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The NESCAC Championships are part of the National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC).

The men’s champion will be the team with the fastest 1V8 at the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC). The runner-up will be the team with the second-fastest 1V8 at the NIRC. In the event of a tie for the championship, the team with the fastest 2V8 at the NIRC will be the champion. The same tiebreaking procedure will be used to determine the runner-up in the event of a tie for second place. The men's field features seven of the top 15 ranked 1V8 teams in the latest IRCA Division III poll. 

The women’s champion will be the team with the highest combined point total of the 1V8 and 2V8 at the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC), using the NCAA point scoring system. The runner-up will be the team with the second-highest combined point total. In the event of a tie for the championship, the team with the fastest V8 at the NIRC will be the champion. The same tiebreaking procedure will be used to determine the runner-up in the event of a tie for second place. NESCAC women's teams occupy seven of the top 15 spots in the latest CRCA Division III Poll.

2025 NESCAC Championship Recap
At the 2025 NESCAC Rowing Championships, the Trinity men's rowing team won its first NESCAC title since 2008 with a two-second edge over runner-up Bates. Overall, the conference title is the Bantams' fifth title as Trinity won four consecutive crowns between 2005 and 2008.

The Trinity 1VB boat posted a winning time of 5:39.214 while the Bates team clocked in at 5:41.064. Only a few tenths of a second separated second, third, and fourth place in the final standings. The Tufts Jumbos followed in third place (5:41.930) to earn their first podium finish at the NIRC, and Williams placed fourth (5:41.957) to round out the NESCAC teams in the grand final.

The Tufts University women's rowing team dominated the National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC), repeating as NESCAC and NIRC Points Trophy champions. The Jumbos won grand finals in the first, second, third, and fourth varsity eights and accumulated a team point total of 195.00 overall. In the Points Trophy standings, which represent overall team performance, Tufts finished ahead of second-place Wesleyan University (172.00) and third-place Williams College (171.00). The NIRC Points Trophy victory is the third in a row for Tufts.

The 2025 NESCAC Championship marked the first year the NESCAC title was determined by results from the first and second varsity NIRC races. The Jumbos won the grand finals in both events, tallying a team score of 56, beating second-place Wesleyan (48) and third-place Williams (47). Tufts had won its first-ever conference title last year.

In first varsity eight racing, Tufts won its heat with a 6:35.556 mark over the 2000-meter course. The Jumbos were in front of Ithaca (6:39.282) in the first heat. In the grand final, Tufts came across the finish line in a time of 6:34.623, the fastest of 18 teams overall and the best among eight conference squads. Williams was second in 6:37.157, a length behind the Jumbos. Wesleyan was close behind in third (6:37.757), and Bates was right there as well in fourth (6:37.900).

The Tufts second varsity eight won the second heat with a time of 6:45.129 to Wesleyan's 6:53.044 in second place. The Jumbos were the fastest of 18 teams overall and the fastest of seven NESCAC teams in the grand final, with a 6:46.031 finish. Wesleyan was the runner-up in 6;48.237, with Trinity close behind at 6:48.857.

Championship History
Four programs have won the NESCAC Men's Rowing title. Williams leads the way with 11, its last coming in 2023. Defending champion Trinity claimed its fifth title last season, and Bates has won four conference crowns (last: 2019). Wesleyan won its first championship in program history in 2024.

Five women's teams have won a NESCAC Championship. The Ephs own the most with 11 crowns (last: 2023) while Bates has captured the title seven times (last: 2022). Tufts has won back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025, while Trinity won back-to-back championships in 2004 and 2005. Colby claimed its NESCAC title in 2003.
