VARESE, Italy – Recent Wesleyan women's rowing graduate Annabelle Miller and former Williams men's rowing athlete and 2024 Paralympian Ben Washburne helped lead the United States Para National Rowing squad to a silver medal in the PR3 Mixed Four boat at the 2025 World Cup held in Varese, Italy in June.
Competing in the PR3 mixed four competition, which made history this year as the first USA boat with two visually impaired athletes, finished in second place as Brazil pushed their bow ball into first in the opening 500 meters. Despite a push in the second quarter of the race, the U.S. was unable to overtake the leaders as Brazil secured gold in 7:03.45 while the U.S. finished close behind in 7:06.85.
Miller and Washburne joined a crew consisting of Emelie Eldrachar, Max Allemeier, and Sarah Menefee in the PR3 competition which is classified as athletes with limited mobility or visual impairment but full use of legs, trunk, arms, and sliding seat.
Final selection for the boat will continue back in Boston later this summer as US Rowing sets its sights on the World Championships in Shanghai, China this September.
