HARTFORD, Conn. – Trinity College Men's Rowing Head Coach Kevin MacDermott has been named the 2025 Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) Division III Coach of the Year, while junior Alenka Doyle earned the prestigious 2025 IRCA Coxswain of the Year award.
MacDermott recently completed his 16th season at the helm of the Bantams, guiding the program to a historic undefeated season. Trinity's first varsity eight (1V8) dominated the national landscape, holding the No. 1 ranking in the IRCA/IRA Varsity 8+ Coaches Poll for six consecutive weeks. The crew captured the program's fifth New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Rowing Championship, the programs first since the 2005–08 four-peat, at the 2025 NESCAC/NIRC Championships on Lake Quinsigamond.
Following the conference title, MacDermott was named NESCAC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career, having first received the honor in 2013. Over his tenure, he has coached seven First Team and three Second Team Empacher-IRCA All-Americans, as well as numerous NESCAC All-Conference selections and Scholar-Athletes.
The Bantams capped off their historic campaign by winning the 2025 IRCA Division III Varsity 8+ National Championship, capturing the program's first national title with a time of 5:40.360, nearly two seconds ahead of team champion Tufts University (5:42.030).
The championship-winning 1V8 lineup featured: Alenka Doyle (coxswain), Wyatt Mills, Jack Carr, Quin Woods, James McGarry, Jackson Moore, Felix Goldmann, Owen Myers, and Jack Lambros. With the win, Trinity became the fourth consecutive NESCAC program to claim the Division III IRA title since its inception in 2022. The victory marked the 180th national championship for the NESCAC across NCAA, College Squash Association (CSA), and IRA competition.
Doyle, a 2025 First Team Empacher-IRCA All-American, concludes her junior season with a string of accolades. She becomes the first coxswain in program history to earn First Team All-American honors, and is a two-time Empacher-IRCA Scholar Athlete and 2025 First Team NESCAC All-Conference selection. A mainstay in Trinity's V8+ shell since her first year, Doyle now adds IRCA Coxswain of the Year to her growing list of historic achievements.
