The NESCAC has released its Players of the Week for the week ending on March 22. The conference recognizes student-athletes in each sport each week for their contributions to their teams, based on information provided by the athletic communications offices on each campus. During the spring season, baseball, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, and softball players of the week will be announced on Mondays. On select Tuesdays, track & field performers of the week will be announced.
NESCAC Baseball Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Tyler McCord – Amherst – Sr. – 2B – Langhorne, Pa.
Amherst went 5-1 in six games last week, and McCord was a driving force with 18 RBI in those six games. The senior batted .480 (12-25) with a .552 on-base percentage and a .720 slugging percentage. McCord walked four times and scored 11 runs. The second baseman knocked out four doubles and one triple among his 12 hits. He went 4-for-6 with five RBI and three runs scored in a 20-5 win over Macalester
NESCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Aden Soroca – Hamilton – Jr. – New York, N.Y.
Soroca went 2-0 and pitched seven innings for the Continentals in Florida. Soroca started the week by pitching the first inning, allowing one unearned run and striking out the side in a 16-3 win against Knox. The junior struck out a career-high 10 batters, walked two, and allowed one hit and one unearned run in six innings of a 5-1 victory against Union.
NESCAC Softball Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Paige Murphy – Tufts – Fy. – SS – San Anselmo, Calif.
Murphy helped lead Tufts to a 5-1 record during the team's spring break trip to Texas. She hit .522 (12-23) with two doubles, a home run, six runs scored, and six RBI in the six games. The rookie also stole two bases. In a 7-6 Game 2 win at Trinity (TX), she went 5-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Tufts won the game with two runs in the top of the seventh, including an RBI double by Murphy that tied the score 6-6. At No. 3 Texas Lutheran, Murphy went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI as the Jumbos defeated the Bulldogs, 7-6, in Game 2. The shortstop was also 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI in Tufts’ Game 1 5-3 win over No. 11 St. Thomas (TX).
NESCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week
Sophia Meade – Colby – So. – Guilford, Conn.
Meade earned two wins in the circle. The hurler threw all seven innings in a win over Smith, and collected another complete game win against Union, a 9-0 shutout in five innings. Meade, Colby's record-holder for saves in a season, tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts against the Garnet Chargers. Meade limited opposing batters to a .167 average.
NESCAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Jack Old – Tufts – So. – G – Columbus, Ohio
Old helped Tufts to a 2-0 week, extending the Jumbos’ win streak to 35 games. Old made 29 saves while allowing only 12 goals in a pair of wins over Trinity and No. 7 Stevens. Old posted a .707 save percentage for the week, while adding seven ground balls. Against Trinity, Old tallied 14 stops in the cage and followed that up with 15 saves and five goals allowed against No. 7 Stevens in an 18-7 win.
NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week | Weekly Release
Charlotte Michener – Colby – So. – M – Fairfield, Conn.
Michener matched her career high, scoring four of Colby’s six goals in the Mules’ 6-5 double-overtime victory against Hamilton. The midfielder scored in each of the first three quarters and netted the game-winner off the first possession of the second overtime.
