NESCAC Summer Spotlight: Neil Mortimer, Colby Men's Swimming & Diving

Neil Mortimer, a four-year member of the Colby Men’s Swimming and Diving team, graduated from Colby College in May with a major in Economics. He is a six-time NCAA All-American, three-time NESCAC Champion, and five-time All-NESCAC honoree who holds multiple school records. In his own words, here is what Mortimer has been up to since graduation…

This summer I am living in Pittsburgh while training with my new team at the University of Pittsburgh. After four impactful years of representing Colby, I will be using my final “COVID” year of eligibility to compete in the ACC while completing my Masters in Finance at the Katz Graduate School of Business.

Summer training thus far has consisted of a weight training session and two workouts in the pool each day. I have been training with the sprint group at Pitt and have thoroughly enjoyed meeting my new coaches, teammates, and learning how I can have a positive impact on the program in and out of the pool. While this level of training at this time of year is new for me, it has been a rewarding challenge and will hopefully translate to success in competitions throughout the year.

I have been impressed by the resources available to athletes at this level but am also reminded of how dedicated the NESCAC is to the holistic support of its student athletes. My summer training will culminate in a club championship meet in late July where my teammates and I will race for U.S. Open cut times.

Outside of swimming, I am completing a remote internship for a private equity firm in Philadelphia and exploring Pittsburgh, which will be my home for the next academic year. Pirates games have been very fun to attend with friends and teammates and I’m sure football season here will be no different.
