The NESCAC has released its Players of the Week for the week of March 4. The conference recognizes student-athletes for each sport based on their contributions to their team each week. This week student-athletes are honored in the sports of men's ice hockey, women's ice hockey, baseball, men's lacrosse, and women's lacrosse.
Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week
Gerard Marretta - Trinity - Sr. - F - Brick, N.J.
Marretta, a senior captain, helped guide the Bantams to their second NESCAC title in three seasons with a pair of victories at the Koeppel Community Sports Center last weekend. Marretta potted a pair of goals as Trinity defeated Middlebury, 5-2, in the semifinals.
Women's Ice Hockey Player of the Week
Sophia Will - Middlebury - So. - G - Lancaster, N.Y.
Will was crucial in helping secure Middlebury’s 12th NESCAC title last weekend, recording shutouts in both the semifinal and championship contests. The Panther stopped all 50 shots faced to guide the team to victories against a pair of top-10 teams. Will saved 76 of 77 shots faced in the entire tournament and ranks in the top 15 nationally in save percentage (.978) and goals against average (1.173) as Middlebury heads into the NCAA Tournament.

Player of the Week
Jackson Sattinger – Hamilton – Sr. – OF/P - Port Washington, N.Y.
Sattinger went 3-for-5 with six runs batted in and three runs scored, and handled seven chances in center field without an error as the Continentals split a doubleheader with Clarkson. In a 2-1 win in Game 1, Sattinger doubled, scored on a wild pitch, and drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning. In a 9-8 loss in the nightcap, the senior blasted a two-run homer, drove in another on a sacrifice fly, plated two runs with a double to deep left field, walked twice, and stole a base. The five RBI in Game 2 tied a career-high.
Pitcher of the Week
Jack Eshleman – Hamilton – Jr. – P - Collegeville, Pa.
Eshleman pitched seven shutout innings in a 2-1 win against Clarkson. Eshleman allowed five hits – all singles – and walked one while striking out six in the no-decision. Eshleman has allowed four earned runs in the junior's last 38.2 innings pitched.
Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week | Weekly Release & Honor Roll
CK Giancola – Wesleyan – Sr. – M – Canton, Conn.
Giancola matched his career high with seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) in a season-opening 20-11 road win at Colby on Saturday. Giancola scored consecutive goals to start the second half where the Cardinals outscored the Mules 13-4 to break open a game that stood tied 7-7 at halftime. Giancola’s 12 shots tied a career-high while he added three ground balls on Saturday. The senior midfielder also hit the 100-career point mark in the win, becoming the 38th player in team history to reach the milestone.
Women's Player of the Week | Weekly Release & Honor Roll
Margie Carden – Tufts – Jr. - A – Newtown Square, Pa.
Carden helped the Tufts women's lacrosse team to a quick 2-0 record to start the season, as Tufts topped Connecticut College, 17-4, before besting Washington & Lee on Sunday,18-16. For the weekend, Carden finished with seven goals and four assists for 11 points to lead Tufts. On Saturday at Conn. College, Carden scored twice and assisted on another goal and then exploded for eight points in the win of the ranked Generals, going for five goals and three assists.
