NESCAC Baseball Weekly Release - March 4

NESCAC Player of the Week
Jackson Sattinger – Hamilton – Sr. – OF/P - Port Washington, N.Y.
Sattinger went 3-for-5 with six runs batted in and three runs scored, and handled seven chances in center field without an error as the Continentals split a doubleheader with Clarkson. In a 2-1 win in Game 1, Sattinger doubled, scored on a wild pitch, and drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning. In a 9-8 loss in the nightcap, the senior blasted a two-run homer, drove in another on a sacrifice fly, plated two runs with a double to deep left field, walked twice, and stole a base. The five RBI in Game 2 tied a career-high.

NESCAC Pitcher of the Week
Jack Eshleman – Hamilton – Jr. – P - Collegeville, Pa.
Eshleman pitched seven shutout innings in a 2-1 win against Clarkson. Eshleman allowed five hits – all singles – and walked one while striking out six in the no-decision. Eshleman has allowed four earned runs in the junior's last 38.2 innings pitched.
 
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – The Mammoths open the 2024 season on Saturday, March 9 with a doubleheader at Ramapo.

Bates - In February, Bates baseball senior captain Chris Cimino (Scarborough, Maine) went 5-for-8 (.625) at the plate with six walks, two doubles, two runs scored, two RBIs, and a stolen base in the first three games of the season for the Bobcats. On Sunday, Cimino continued the hot start to the season, tallying two more hits, scoring three more runs, and drawing a pair of walks in a doubleheader sweep of Plymouth State. Cimino is 7-for-15 at the plate with nine walks through five games. Senior Sam Hough (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) bounced back from a tough first start to deliver in a big way Sunday against Plymouth State, as he tossed a seven-inning complete game in a 10-1 victory for the Bobcats. He allowed just one run on five hits, striking out three, and did not issue a walk in the victory.

Bowdoin - Junior Kevin Murray (Huntington, N.Y.) enjoyed an outstanding opening weekend at the plate for the Polar Bears, batting .571 with a 2.096 OPS, collecting four extra-base hits, six RBI, walking three times, and stealing two bases in three games for the Polar Bears. All of the hits were for extra bases, he delivered a sacrifice fly and was also hit by a pitch, posting a .667 on-base percentage for the weekend. Bowdoin first-year Rudy Gatley (Wrentham, Mass.) tossed six innings, allowed no earned runs, and struck out four in a 5-1 win over Maine-Farmington on Saturday. In the newcomer’s first collegiate start, Gately permitted just three hits and no walks to earn the victory. 

Colby - Cole Palmeri (Hamilton, N.J.) opened his senior campaign with a bang at the plate, going 4-for-5 with doubles in each of the first two innings, a single in the third, and a triple in the sixth and scored runs in four of the first seven innings against Maine-Farmington. A free pass in the seventh inning put Palmeri on base in five of six appearances, giving the senior an OBP of .833 to combine with his 1.600 slugging percentage good for a whopping 2.433 OPS to open the season. Thomas Rioux (Derry, N.H.) toed the mound for the Mules in the season opener Sunday against Maine-Farmington. The sophomore threw four innings, including scoreless lines in the first and fourth frames. Rioux scattered four hits and struck out one. 

Middlebury - Beau Root (Washington Depot, Conn.) was phenomenal for Middlebury during the first weekend of the 2024 campaign. In the season-opening victory over Edgewood, the outfielder was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs scored, and two runs batted in. Root concluded the weekend with three runs on four hits, as well as a batting average of .667, an OPS of 1.583, and a slugging percentage of .833. The senior was perfect on the basepaths, stealing three bases over the trio of games.

Trinity – Sophomore Dylan Schnitzer (Huntington, N.Y.) helped power the Bantams’ offense to a pair of victories to open the 2024 campaign, batting .750 with six hits, including a double and triple, five runs, and five RBI. In a 19-4 win over Keene State, Schnitzer went 5-for-6 with five RBI and three runs, followed by a 1-for-2 day with two runs scored in a 9-1 win over Farmingdale State. Alex Chang (Port Washington, N.Y.) picked up the senior’s first victory of the season, allowing one run in five innings of work with three strikeouts.

Tufts – The Jumbos' first game of the 2024 season is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6 versus Brandeis at Sol Gittleman Park.

Wesleyan – The Cardinals begin the 2024 campaign on March 10 versus Gustavus Adolphus in Tucson, Arizona.

Williams – The Ephs are slated to start the 2024 season on Wednesday, March 13 at RPI.
