NESCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Awards Handed Out

HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC has announced the All-NESCAC Team and major award winners from the 2023 Women's Swimming & Diving Championships.

Swimmer of the Year: Sophia Verkleeren, Williams
Verkleeren is the 14th Williams swimmer and the sixth Eph in a row to garner the honor. The sophomore won three individual events (200 IM, 400 IM, and 200 backstroke) and was a member of two winning relay squads (200 & 400 medley relays). Verkleeren set a NESCAC meet record in the 200 and was a member of the Williams 400 medley relay team that established a new NESCAC meet mark. Verkleeren finished the 2023 championships with seven All-NESCAC citations.
 
Rookie of the Year: Madeleine Dunn, Tufts
Dunn is the first Tufts swimmer to be voted the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. The first-year won all three distance freestyle events (500, 1000, and 1650) and set a NESCAC meet record in the 1000 freestyle. Dunn finished the championships with three All-NESCAC honors.

Diver of the Year: Sydney Bluestein, Amherst
Bluestein was voted as the NESCAC Diver of the Meet for the first time in her career after sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. The sophomore is the seventh Mammoth diver to earn the award and 2023 marks the fifth consecutive year an Amherst diver has garnered the honor.
 
Career-High Point Swimmer: Claire Brennan, Tufts
Brennan totaled 254 career points at the NESCAC Championships. She is the first Tufts swimmer to earn the award. At the 2023 championships, Brennan earned All-NESCAC honors five times. The senior won the 200 freestyle and was a member of the Jumbos' 800 freestyle relay team that claimed first place.
 
Career High-Point Diver: Sydney Ho, Tufts
Ho compiled 123 career points at the NESCAC Championships. She is the second Tufts diver to earn the honor (Lindsay Gardel, 2010). Ho earned All-NESCAC honors in the 3-meter competition, finishing third in the event at the 2023 championships.

Swim Coach of the Year: John Geissinger, Hamilton
Geissinger was voted as the NESCAC Women's Swim Coach of the Year by his peers and is the first Hamilton coach to win the award. He guided the Continentals to their best finish (7th) and most points (685.5) since 2011.
 
Diving Coach of the Year: Kai Robinson, Amherst
Robinson earns the NESCAC Women's Diving Coach of the Year honor for the fifth year in a row.
