Dylan Healey left his mark at Trinity College on the ice, in the classroom, and in the community. Although he was unable to lace up the skates for one final season, Healey made an impact on the Trinity men's ice hockey team from the moment that he stepped foot in Hartford. As a rookie, he played in every game and helped the Bantams reached the NESCAC Finals. In his second season, he emerged as one of the top scorers in the league while leading Trinity to the NESCAC title. Healey was elected a captain in his junior campaign and once again guided the Bantams to the conference championship game.
Although cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, Healey enjoyed a fantastic career. He cites Trinity’s amazing $50,000 fundraising effort for breast cancer research as one of his team’s greatest accomplishments. The mother of a teammate had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and the team came together for him and his family. Healey describes this as “arguably the most memorable and heartfelt moment of my hockey career.”
Healey also excelled academically, earning Faculty Honors and was named to the NESCAC All-Academic team three times while also earning American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholar recognition. He graduated summa cum laude from Trinity with a 3.67 GPA in economics. Healey has already started his post-graduate professional career, as he is training for a position as a service consultant at his family’s Hyundai dealership where he has worked for several years.
“I truly believe that college does an excellent job of preparing people for life after college, but that is completely dependent on a student’s willingness to go outside their comfort zone,” said Healey. “Students can learn so much about themselves through trial and error and uncomfortable learning experiences, like pitching a business plan in front of successful entrepreneurs or performing a 19th century Italian drama, depending on their calling. Finding what daily routines work or don’t work, or who to surround oneself with are also great lessons. Ultimately, what made my college experience so worthwhile is the friends I have met along the way. I will forever be grateful for my experiences at Trinity.”
