HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC has announced the 2016-17 Women’s Swimming & Diving All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event at the 2017 NESCAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships received All-Conference recognition.
Williams junior Emma Waddell (Bangor, Maine) was named the Swimmer of the Year. Waddell won her third straight NESCAC titles in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. She was also part of four relay teams that took home first place. She swam the anchor leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay and was also part of the 200 and 400-yard medley relay squads that all set meet and pool records. She closed out the meet swimming the anchor leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay and helped the Ephs set a pool record in the event.
Williams senior Ariana Ross (New Canaan, Conn.) earned Diver of the Year honors for the third straight year. Ross is the first women’s diver in NESCAC history to earn the honor three times. She won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions for the third consecutive season and set a pool record with 526.30 points on the 3-meter board. Ross was also recognized as the Four Year High Point Diver.
Senior Megan Pierce (Wayland, Mass.) of Williams was recognized as the Four Year High Point Swimmer and is the 10th Eph to earn the honor since 2001. Pierce won the NESCAC title in the 400-yard individual medley for the fourth straight year and set a meet and pool record in the process. She also took first in the 1,650-yard freestyle for the second consecutive season. Pierce was also a member of the winning 800-freestyle relay team that posted a pool record.
Rookie of the Year honors went to Caroline White (Winter Park, Fla.) of Williams. In her first NESCAC Championship meet, she won the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events. She was also a member of the 200 and 400-medley relay teams that set meet and pool records during the weekend.
Wesleyan’s Peter Solomon was named Coach of the Year, while Kelsey Willard of Bowdoin earned Diving Coach of the Year honors. Solomon earned the award for the first time in his career as the Cardinals posted the program’s best finish (7th - 751 points) since 2008. Willard received the award for the second straight year after Christine Andersen finished second on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.
