Women's Squash All-NESCAC Selections Released

Trinity's Kanzy El Defrawy Garners Fourth Player of the Year Honor

HADLEY, Mass. - Trinity senior Kanzy El Defrawy (Cairo, Egypt) has been selected by the conference coaches as the 2016 NESCAC Player of the Year after posting a record of 13-1 at the No. 1 position this season. El Defrawy earns the distinction of becoming the first player in women’s squash league history to receive Player of the Year honors all four years. The 2013 NESCAC Rookie of the Year also helped the Bantams captured their tenth NESCAC Championship in early February.

  • Six players on the All-NESCAC First Team are repeat First Team honorees, while one player was Second Team All-NESCAC last season. The All-NESCAC Second Team includes six first-time all-conference recipients.
  • Six Trinity players were recognized on the All-NESCAC team. Williams had three players land on the all-conference squad while Amherst, Bates, Bowdoin and Colby received two All-NESCAC selections each.
  • Bates first-year Kristyna Alexova has been selected as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Alexova, who also landed on the All-NESCAC First Team, is 18-4 this season at the No. 1 position for the Bobcats. She is the third Bates player to be recognized as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, joining Cheri-Ann Parris (2010) and Nessrine Ariffin (2012).
  • Sophomore Laila Samy of Wesleyan garnered All-NESCAC First Team plaudits for the second straight year. The 2015 NESCAC Rookie of the Year is 17-0 in the No. 1 position for the Cardinals.
  • A pair of Williams sophomores, Nicole Friedman and Hayley Parsons, were repeat first team all-conference honorees. At the No. 1 position, Friedman won seven matches while Parsons tallied eight wins at the No. 2 spot for the Ephs.
  • Two more sophomores landed on the All-NESCAC First Team in back-to-back seasons. Colby’s Devin Mullaney recorded nine wins in the No. 1 position while Trinity’s Raneem Sharaf has tallied an 11-3 record at the No. 2 position.
  • Rachel Newman of Hamilton was elevated to the All-NESCAC First Team after being named to the Second Team last season. The senior picked up eight wins at the No. 1 position.
  • Two other players joined Alexova as first-time all-conference picks. Sophomore Salma El Defrawy of Trinity and first-year Rachael Ang of Amherst received recognition based on their performances this season. El Defrawy has a 9-2 record playing primarily at the No. 5 position this season while Ang is 8-7 in the top spot for the Purple & White.
  • Trinity’s Wendy Bartlett has been chosen as the NESCAC Coach of the Year for the third time in four seasons by the league’s coaches after guiding the Bantams to their tenth conference championship. Trinity is 11-4 heading into the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championships this weekend. Bartlett, who is in her 32nd season as the Bantams’ head coach, was previously recognized in 2013 and 2015.
