Women's Swimming & Diving All-Conference Team Announced

Amherst's Hyde Named Swimmer of the Year

HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC has announced the 2015-16 Women’s Swimming & Diving All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event at the 2016NESCAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships received All-Conference recognition.

Amherst senior Emily Hyde (Clinton, N.Y.) was named the Swimmer of the Year for the first time in her career. Hyde was crowned the individual champion in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley. Her time in the 200 breaststroke established a new NCAA Division III record, breaking the previous record set by Williams’ Lindsey Payne in 2006. Hyde also set a meet and pool record in the 200 individual medley, and a pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke. She was also a member of the runner-up 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays and the third-place 800-yard freestyle relay.

Hyde was also recognized as the Four Year High Point Swimmer. She closed out her career as a four-time champion in the 200-yard breaststroke and a three-time champion in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.

Williams junior Ariana Ross (New Canaan, Conn.) repeated as Diver of the Year after collecting first place in 1-meter diving on Friday followed by a first-place finish in 3-meter diving on Sunday. During the 3-meter diving preliminaries, she also set a new pool record. Ross is the first diver to be named Diver of the Meet in back-to-back years since 2007-08 when Kendall Swett of Tufts received the award. Ross is also the fourth diver to garner the accolade multiple times, joining Swett and Williams’ Caroline Crocker, Rachel Gealy and McKenzie Murdoch.

Wesleyan senior Carly Feinman (Chappaqua, N.Y.) was recognized as the Four Year High Point Diver. Last year, Feinman turned in her best combined finish at the conference championships after finishing sixth in 1-meter diving (361.90) and seventh on the 3-meter board (328.85).

Rookie of the Year Alison McNamara (Tappan, N.Y.) from Williams won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a pool record time, and finished second in the 500-yard and 1,650-yard freestyles. She joins teammates Megan Pierce and Emma Waddell as past Williams recipients of the award.

Middlebury’s Bob Rueppel was named Coach of the Year, while Kelsey Willard of Bowdoin earned Diving Coach of the Year honors. Rueppel received the award for the first time in his career as Middlebury placed fourth with 1,090.5 points to become the first Panther coach in the program’s history to garner the accolade. Willard earned recognition for the first time in her career after having two divers finish second and third in 3-meter diving and third and fourth in 1-meter diving. She is the second diving coach in Bowdoin program history to receive the award, joining Harvey Wheeler, who collected the award in 2006.
