Trinity's Kanzy El Defrawy Garners Third Player of the
Year Honor
HADLEY, Mass. - Trinity junior
Kanzy El Defrawy (Cairo, Egypt) has been selected
by the conference coaches as the 2015 NESCAC Player of the Year
after turning in a 14-2 record. El Defrawy, who was named the
NESCAC Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014, became the first player
in league history to receive Player of the Year honors three
consecutive years.
El Defrawy was one of three Trinity players chosen as a part of
the 10-member All-NESCAC First Team. Joining El Defrawy from the
Bantams were sophomore Anna Kimberley (Essex,
England) and first-year Raneem Sharaf (Giza,
Egypt). With a 12-3 record, Kimberley is making her second straight
appearance on the First Team after being named All-NESCAC First
Team and the NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2014. Saharf has posted a
solid 12-1 mark this season for the conference champions.
Bates seniors Nessrine Ariffin (Penang,
Malaysia) and Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.) have
accomplished the feat of being named All-NESCAC in each of their
four seasons. Ariffin, who is 15-5 this season, wraps up her career
as a four-time First Team selection in addition to being named the
2012 NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Kelly makes her second straight
appearance on the First Team after landing on the Second Team in
2012 and 2013.
The remainder of the First Team features five first-time
all-conference selections. Leading the way is Wesleyan first-year
Laila Samy (Cairo, Egypt), who also was chosen as
the 2015 NESCAC Rookie of the Year. At 17-0 during team competition
this season, Samy is the first Cardinal to garner Rookie of the
Year accolades. Junior Saskia Pownall-Gray
(Weston, Conn.) of Middlebury turned in a record of 6-8 for the
Panthers, who took third place at this year’s NESCAC
Championship.
A trio of first-year players round out the First Team picks.
Willliams’ Nicole Friedman (Great Neck,
N.Y.) and Hayley Parsons (New Canaan, Conn.)
helped the Ephs finish as the NESCAC Runner-Up, as Friedman has
posted a 7-12 record and Parsons has gone 13-6. Colby’s
Devin Mullaney (Boston, Mass.) turned in a solid
rookie campaign with a 10-5 mark.
Wendy Bartlett of Trinity was selected by her
peers as NESCAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Bantams to
their ninth NESCAC championship with four first-year players
competing in the top nine. This is the second Coach of the Year
honor for Bartlett, who received the award in 2013.
