Williams' Thompson Repeats as Swimmer of the Meet
HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC has announced the 2014-15 Women’s Swimming & Diving All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event at the 2015 NESCAC Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships received All-Conference recognition.
Williams senior Sarah Thompson (Evanston, Ill.) was named the Swimmer of the Meet for the second consecutive year. Thompson repeated as the individual champion in the 200, 500 and 1,650-yard freestyle events. Her time in the 1,650 freestyle also established a new meet record. She swam the anchor leg of the winning 400-yard freestyle and medley relays that set meet and pool records, and was a member of the winning 200 and 800-yard freestyle relays.
Thompson was also recognized as the Four Year High Point Swimmer. She closed out her career as a four-time champion in the 200-yard freestyle, a three-time champion in the 1,650-yard freestyle and a two-time champion in the 500-yard freestyle.
Williams sophomore Ariana Ross (New Canaan, Conn.) earned Diver of the Meet honors after collecting first place in 1-meter diving with a pool record on Friday followed by a first place finish in 3-meter diving on Sunday. Ross is the first sophomore to be named Diver of the Meet since 2012 when McKenzie Murdoch of Williams received the award.
Williams senior Michelle Higgins (Acton, Mass.) was recognized as the Four Year High Point Diver. Higgins, the 2013 NESCAC 3-meter diving champion, finished in second place in both diving events in 2015. She also placed second in 3-meter diving in 2014 and third in 1-meter diving in 2013 and 2014.
Rookie of the Meet Emma Waddell (Bangor, Maine) from Williams won the 100-yard butterfly, the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley. She was also a member of the winning 200-yard freestyle and medley relays and 400-yard freestyle and medley relays, all of which were meet and pool records.
Bowdoin’s Brad Burnham was named Coach of the Year, while Kit Callahan Koch of Williams earned Diving Coach of the Year honors. Burnham earned the award for the first time in his career as the Polar Bears posted a program-high fifth place finish with a school-record 932.5 points. Koch received the award for the eighth time in her career after having two divers finish first and second in both diving events. She earned the recognition in 2001-04, 2011-12 and 2014.
