Hathway of Trinity Named Player of the Year

HADLEY, Mass. – Trinity College junior Pamela Hathway (Munich, Germany) has been chosen by the conference coaches as the 2010 NESCAC Player of the Year. Hathaway went 13-2 in dual competition for the Bantams this year, helping her squad capture its fourth consecutive NESCAC Women’s Squash Championship. She also had a 4-1 showing at the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual National Championships earlier this month, finishing as the national runner-up.

Hathway also earned a spot on the 10-member All-NESCAC First Team. Joining her from Trinity were senior Nayelly Hernandez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and sophomore Nour Bahgat (Cairo, Egypt), both of whom earned First Team honors last year. Hernandez posted a 9-4 mark in dual play and a 4-1 showing at the CSA individuals, winning the Ramsay Division consolation finals. She finished her career with a 40-13 record. Bahgat, the 2009 NESCAC Player and Rookie of the Year, was 10-1 for the Bantams in dual match play this season.

Trinity and Williams both had three representatives on the All-Conference First Team, and all three individuals from the Ephs repeated from last year. Seniors Jennifer Coxe (Greenwich, Conn.) and Toby Eyre (Philadelphia, Pa.) garnered First Team recognition for the third year in a row. Coxe was 15-9 in dual play this year while Eyre was 18-6 and reached the quarterfinals of the Ramsay Division. Sophomore Courtney Bogle (Bronxville, N.Y.) was the third member of the Williams squad on the First Team. Bogle went 13-11 primarily at the third spot in the ladder for the Ephs.

Bates had two representatives on the First Team with senior Hannah Laverty (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and first year Cheri-Ann Parris (St. Phillip, Barbados). Laverty wrapped up her final season with the Bobcats with a 17-7 dual record, playing all but one match at the two position. Parris, who also had Rookie of the Year honors bestowed upon her by the coaches, was an impressive 18-5 at the one spot for Bates, as she finished the season by winning her last nine matches in dual play.

Rounding out the 2010 NESCAC All-Conference First Team were a pair of players from Maine teams who earned conference honors for the third year in a row - Colby senior Samantha Smith (Locust Valley, N.Y.) and Bowdoin junior Lauren Gesswein (Fairfield, Conn.). The two number ones both moved up from last year’s Second Team. Smith went 16-10 for the Mules in dual play this season, while Gesswein returned from a fall semester abroad to post a 13-4 record.

Bates’ Pat Cosquer was the choice among the coaches, as he earned NESCAC Coach of the Year for the first time. The second year head coach guided the Bobcats to a 19-8 overall record. Cosquer also earned Men’s Squash Coach of the Year.
