MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Top-seed Wesleyan won its sixth NESCAC Championship in seven years with a 4-0 victory over No. 2-seeded Bowdoin at Middlebury College.
The Cardinals clinched doubles wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead over the Polar Bears, who were making their first appearance in the championship match.
In the singles competition, Sarah Youngberg dropped just two games at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1) to push Wesleyan’s lead to 2-0. Agnes Guggenheim added the third point at No. 2 with a 7-5, 6-0 victory. Mariia Kornilova delivered the clinching point of the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on the No. 4 court.
Wesleyan earns the NESCAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will learn its opponent on Monday, May 4 at Noon via a selection show on NCAA.com.
