Four NESCAC tennis teams are off to Chattanooga, Tennessee for the NCAA Division III Men’s & Women’s Tennis Quarterfinals.
The remaining rounds of the NCAA Tournament will be played at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee, starting on Monday, May 18 and running through Tuesday, May 26.
In the men’s competition, Bowdoin is matched up against the University of Chicago, while Tufts will face Swarthmore in the quarterfinals. Both matches are set to begin at 2 p.m.
The Polar Bears won their regional pod with victories over Roger Williams, 4-0, and Babson, 4-1. Bowdoin (19-4) advances to the quarterfinals for the third time in four years and is making its ninth NCAA Quarterfinal appearance overall. The Polar Bears won the NCAA crown in 2016.
Tufts (24-2), also hosting a regional pod, cruised into the quarterfinals with a pair of 4-0 wins over Baruch and Trinity (Texas). The Jumbos are making their fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
In the women’s bracket, Bowdoin and Wesleyan advanced to the quarterfinals. The Polar Bears will play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps while the Cardinals face Washington & Lee. Both matches are set for 11 a.m. on Monday, May 18.
At the regional pod hosted by Amherst, the Cardinals defeated Moravian, 4-0, and battled to a 4-2 victory over the host Mammoths. Wesleyan (20-2) moves on to the quarterfinals for the eighth consecutive season.
The Polar Bears dispatched Williams and MIT by 4-0 scores in the regional in Cambridge, Mass. Bowdoin (15-7) returns to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the second straight season.
Bowdoin is one of three schools, along with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Chicago, to have both their men's and women's teams advance to the national quarterfinals.
