Bowdoin, Tufts, and Wesleyan are the NESCAC teams remaining in the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Tournament.
In the quarterfinal round, Bowdoin hosts unbeaten Hope, which upset Bates in the second round, on Friday, May 15 at 4 p.m. at Whittier Field. On Saturday, May 16, at Bello Field on the Tufts campus, the Jumbos face York (Pa.) at 4:30 p.m., and Wesleyan plays Christopher Newport at 7:30 p.m.
The quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals and are set to be hosted by Bowdoin (Saturday) and Tufts (Sunday). The semifinal winners advance to the national championship game set for Sunday, May 24 at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Bowdoin (18-1) advanced to the quarterfinals for the fourth time in the last five years with a
17-14 win over Stevens. The Polar Bear defense held the Ducks scoreless over the final 8:11 of the contest to seal the victory. Stevens answered every Bowdoin rally to remain within striking distance, but the Polar Bears took a 15-14 lead with 6:40 remaining and added a man-up goal two minutes later to push the lead to two. Quickly after a faceoff win, the Polar Bears struck for a third straight marker to extend the lead to 17-14 for the final margin. Casey Ryan paced Bowdoin with nine points on four goals and five assists. The Polar Bears cruised to a
16-6 win over Scranton in second-round action. Bowdoin took a 5-2 lead behind four straight goals to close the first quarter. The run sparked a 9-0 surge to push the Polar Bears’ lead to 11-3 at the half. Bowdoin allowed just two goals over a span of 49:26 of the game to earn the victory.
Tufts (19-1) is hosting the NCAA Sectional for the second straight year. The Jumbos posted wins against Rhodes (
17-8) and Middlebury (
24-10) to earn a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals for the fourth consecutive year. Against Rhodes, Tufts scored the first eight goals of the game and led 12-3 at the intermission. The Jumbos’ lead grew to as many as 11 with 4:55 remaining. Chase Beyer led the way for Tufts with five points on three goals and two assists. Versus Middlebury, the Jumbos netted 24 goals, including 13 in the third quarter, to cruise past the Panthers. Jack Regnery tallied six goals to pace Tufts.
Wesleyan (13-4) defeated Ohio Northern (
19-4) and Williams (
14-10) in its opening round games in Middletown, Conn. to move on to the quarterfinals for the seventh time in team history and first time since 2018. The Cardinals cruised to a 19-4 win over Ohio Northern in the second round. Wesleyan scored 16 unanswered goals en route to the win. Gavin Lechner tallied five points (3 goals, 2 assists), and Ben Burns added three goals and an assist. In a Little Three matchup in the third round, Wesleyan used a late 5-0 run to take a 14-8 lead and defeat Williams. Matt Morrow paced the Cardinals with four goals, and Will Miller added a hat trick.
