NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week
Carson Kraus – Hamilton – So. – M – Garden City, N.Y.
Kraus posted 10 points, six ground balls, and a caused turnover in two NESCAC road wins for the Continentals. Kraus scored two goals and added an assist in a 10-9 victory at Williams. The sophomore's goal with 20.6 seconds left completed a comeback from a 9-4 deficit early in the fourth quarter. Kraus tied a career high with seven goals in an 18-13 triumph at Trinity and gave Hamilton the lead for good at 11-10 with 5:46 remaining in the third quarter. The Continentals won in Hartford for the first time since 2014.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – Senior
Bennett Chow (Chicago, Ill.) registered seven points (5G, 2A) last week in a critical 2-0 week for the Mammoths. The midfielder was credited with the game-winning goal in both games, an 11-8 win at Conn. College and a 10-9 Senior Day home win over Williams. Against the Ephs, Chow scored a third-quarter goal that tied the game 5-5, assisted on a fourth-quarter goal that gave Amherst an 8-7 lead, and then scored again with 1:41 left in the game to push the Mammoths’ lead to 10-8.
Bates – Jack Goldbach (West Caldwell, N.J.) paced the Bobcats with four points (2G, 2A) against No. 1 Tufts. The sophomore followed up with a career-high five goals and one assist in a 19-11 win over Connecticut College on Saturday. Goldbach finished with 10 points on seven goals and three assists. His 36 points rank third on the team through 13 games.
Bowdoin – Junior
Casey Ryan (San Diego, Calif.) scored five goals with four assists in a midweek win over Colby and added three goals and four assists in a Saturday non-conference victory over UMass Boston. Ryan leads the NESCAC at 6.08 points per game.
Colby –
Eli Chilicki (North Berwick, Maine) led the Mules this week with five goals and three assists across two games. The rookie’s three goals and two assists against Bowdoin tied a season-high five points.
Conn. College –
Matthew Sofarelli (Jupiter, Fla.) led the Camels with five goals and two assists for seven points last week against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents. The rookie finished with four goals and a helper in a loss at No. 14 Bates and supplied a goal and an assist in a setback against No. 17 Amherst.
Middlebury – Senior
Hayden Kern (Westlake Hills, Texas) was a standout performer in a 2-0 week for the Panthers. Against No. 19 St. Lawrence, the senior logged 12 saves and had a season-high seven ground balls to help seal a 14-8 triumph. Kern made history four days later in the squad’s final road contest of the regular season, making 16 saves in a 16-9 victory over Colby. During the game, Kern surpassed Paul Scheufele’s career saves mark of 787 that had stood since the 1980 season. The Panther also became the first player in program history to surpass 800 career stops and is second in the NESCAC with 12.25 saves per contest.
Tufts – Senior attack
Brooks Hauser (Denver, Colo.) helped the Jumbos to a pair of ranked wins over No. 14 Bates and No. 8 Wesleyan, extending the Jumbos' win streak to 39 straight games. Hauser finished with 11 points on seven goals and four assists over the two wins, as he netted the game-winning goal against Wesleyan. He tallied three goals and an assist in a win over Bates and followed up with a four-goal, three-assist outing in the win over Wesleyan.
Wesleyan –
James Bailey (Madison, N.J.) led the Cardinal offense with nine points over two games, totaling three goals and six assists. Bailey opened with a four-point game in an 11-6 win over Trinity, scoring once and dishing out three assists. The senior followed up with a five-point game at Tufts, scoring twice and adding three assists to give him three straight three-assist games.
Williams –
Ryan Johnson (Somerset, N.J.) totaled four goals, three assists, and seven points in two games last week for the Ephs. The senior finished with three goals and one assist against visiting Hamilton on Wednesday and tallied one goal and two assists at No. 17 Amherst on Saturday.
