HADLEY, Mass. – For the first time since 2014, Middlebury will host the NESCAC Cross Country Championships. The races are set for Saturday, October 31, on the Middlebury campus in Middlebury, Vermont. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the men's race at 12 p.m.
For the first time in conference history, the NESCAC Cross Country Championship will be webcast for free via the NESCAC NETWORK powered by the Northeast Sports Network (NSN). The Middlebury course has limited visibility in areas the webcast production cannot cover. The
NESCAC NETWORK is available on the streaming apps for television (Android TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku), computers, and mobile devices (iOS, Android). The 2026 NESCAC Championships will feature eight women's teams ranked in the top 30 of the USTFCCCA Division III Poll, including three top-10 teams - Middlebury (#2), Williams (#4), and Tufts (#7). The men's race boasts seven ranked squads, with five in the top 20: Williams (#14), Wesleyan (#15), Tufts (#16), Bates (#19), and Amherst (#20).
2025 CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
The Tufts Jumbos claimed the 2025 NESCAC Men's Cross Country Championship trophy with a convincing win in the race hosted by Conn. College at Harkness Park in Waterford, Conn. Tufts earned its first NESCAC title since 2012 with a 27-point win over runner-up Williams, snapping the Ephs' streak of five straight NESCAC trophies. Led by Jonah Reisner's runner-up finish (24:22.6), the Jumbos placed four runners in the top seven, and their fifth scorer finished 11th to secure the win. The victory marked Tufts' fifth NESCAC title.
The Williams Ephs claimed their sixth straight NESCAC Women's Cross Country title and 22nd overall with a dominating performance. Williams placed all five scoring runners in the top 10, with 4.3 seconds separating the Ephs. Williams went 4 (Kate Tuttle – 21:12.41) - 5 (Morgan Eigel – 21:12.91) - 6 (Tamar Byl-Brann – 21:13.30) - 7 (Kate Swann – 21:13.98) - 10 (Charlene Peng – 21:26.79) for a final score of 32 points and a 37-point victory over runner-up Middlebury.
Individually, Williams sophomore Eli Welch beat Tufts' Reisner by 2.4 seconds (24:20.2) to claim the individual men's title. Welch was the third consecutive Eph to win the NESCAC title and is the sixth Williams runner in the last seven championship races to capture the individual honor. Middlebury's Audrey MacLean won her second straight NESCAC title, covering the 6K course in 20:47.8 (tying for the third-best time in course history), 18 seconds faster than runner-up Grace McDonough of host Conn. College. MacLean was the first women's runner to win back-to-back titles since Colby's Sophia Gorman in 2018 and 2019. The back-to-back wins mark just the seventh time since 1976 a runner has achieved the feat in the women's championship. Both Welch and MacLean return for the 2026 championships.
NESCAC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Nine NESCAC schools have won a NESCAC Men's Cross Country title since 1983, when the NESCAC began recognizing a team champion. Williams leads all schools with 22 titles and has captured nine of the last 11 trophies. The Ephs also lead the NESCAC with 14 individual winners, including Eli Welch, who won last season.
Seven NESCAC schools have won the NESCAC Women's Cross Country crown since 1983. Williams leads the pack with 22 titles, including six consecutive championships and nine of the last 10 crowns. A league-leading 13 Panthers have claimed the individual NESCAC title, including Audrey MacLean's back-to-back titles.
