Every Monday during the season, a NESCAC Player of the Week will be selected based on information submitted by the athletic communications offices at member institutions.
NESCAC Volleyball Player of the Week
Rianna Liu – Tufts – Jr. – Setter – Foster City, Calif.
Liu helped the Jumbos post a 3-0 week as Tufts upped its win streak to five with the three victories. Liu posted 48 assists over three matches, averaging six assists per set. The junior also led the team with 11 aces, adding 3.0 digs per set. In a three-set win over WPI, Liu posted 19 assists and seven digs, with an ace. Against Stevens, Liu helped the Jumbos to a three-set win with 17 assists and nine digs, posting three service aces. Against Drew, Liu tallied 12 assists in two sets, posting seven aces and eight digs in the win.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – The Mammoths’ matches scheduled for last week at NYU were cancelled. Amherst is scheduled to return action on Friday, Sept. 19 in a NESCAC match versus Bates.
Bates –
Ami Evans (Honolulu, Hawaii) recorded a double-double last Tuesday with a season-high 12 kills and 12 digs in a 3-0 win over Maine Maritime Academy. The senior also added two blocks. In two matches on Saturday, Evans followed up with six kills and four digs in a 3-0 win over Saint Joseph's (ME) and four kills, four service aces, five digs, and a block in a 3-0 win over Wellesley. The Bobcats are off to a 5-1 start under new head coach Carissa Bradford.
Bowdoin – First-year
Zoe Ryu (Washington, D.C.) was Bowdoin’s leading hitter at the New England Classic last weekend, which included an eight-kill, six-ace performance on Saturday in a 3-0 sweep of Brandeis.
Colby –
Brady Moseley (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) led Colby to four wins last week, stretching the Mules’ win streak to open the season to nine games. The junior hit double-digit kills in three of the four contests and collected a season-high 14 digs and 15.5 points in Colby's five-set come-from-behind win over Babson. The outside hitter sits second in the conference in kills per set (3.56) and third in points per set (4.0).
Connecticut College –
Rae Wartelle (Tacoma, Wash.) hit .375 and recorded 28 kills over two matches, leading the Camels to a 1-1 week. The junior finished with 10 kills and two blocks in a 3-0 sweep of Worcester State and racked up a season-high 18 kills to go with two blocks in four sets against Plymouth State.
Hamilton - Senior
Maggie Nichols (McLean, Va.) tied career highs with seven kills and five blocks in a three-set win against Clark. Rookie
Grace Jansen (Crystal Lake, Ill.) posted a double-double with 13 assists and 11 digs in a three-set victory against SUNY Morrisville. First-year
Zua Vang (Albemarle, N.C.) came up with 26 digs – the highest total by a Hamilton player so far this season – in a four-set loss against St. John Fisher.
Middlebury –
Molly Harrison (Tiburon, Calif.) was the top attacker for Middlebury last week. Over four contests, the junior tallied 59 kills and 3.93 kills per set. Harrison pushed her streak of double-digit successful attacks to five consecutive matches, headlined by a season-high 19 in the final match of the Scranton Invitational against Salisbury. The right side hitter also became the 11th player in program history to surpass 800 career kills. Harrison leads the NESCAC in points (105.5) and kills (92).
Trinity – Senior
Ellie Gordon (Los Angeles, Calif.) helped the Bantams improve to 6-1 on the season, generating 43 kills on a .344 attack percentage with seven digs and seven blocks. Gordon began the weekend with 10 kills in a three-set sweep of Regis, followed by a career-high 26 kills in a five-set battle with Springfield. Gordon added seven kills, four blocks, and two digs in a three-set sweep of UMass-Boston. Gordon's 26 kills against Springfield tied for the second-most kills in a match in program history.
Williams –
Keely Campuzano (Excelsior, Minn.) led the Ephs in kills last weekend, averaging 3.25 kills per set and a .392 hitting percentage overall. The junior posted a double-digit kill performance (11) against Union, while also helping the Ephs to a 3-0 record for the weekend. Campuzano was named Tournament MVP of the Union/Russell Sage Crosstown Challenge.
