CLAREMONT, Calif. - Courting a 29-7 overall singles record for the 2025 season, Wesleyan's Jackie Soloveychik's sophomore season came to a close as the NCAA Division III National Runner-Up following a loss in the National Championship match that ran three sets as Soloveychik forced a tiebreak with a second-set comeback.
Just the fourth women's tennis player to reach the national title match in program history, Soloveychik, a three-time All-NESCAC selection and All-American honoree, Soloveychik anchored the Cardinals at No. 1 all season. Holding fast to her rank through the regular season, Soloveychik's winnings brought her face to face with again with the victories of season's past in Claremont. On the first day of the Individual Championships, Soloveychik went 6-1, 6-1 over Washington University's Eleanor Archer in the first round before a 6-4, 6-1 performance against Babson's Matia Cristiani in the second round.
A two-set comeback in the quarterfinal saw Soloveychik post a 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Izabele Antanavicius from Emory to advance to the semifinals. Soloveychik's semifinal matchup against NYU's Jimena Menendez was the third meeting between the pair this season. All three matchups were victories for Soloveychik with the 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 triumph catapulting the Cardinal to the finals.
Awaiting Soloveychik was CMS' Lindsay Eisenman. Ranked 15th overall, Eisenman was already familiar to Wesleyan, defeating Lane Durkin in the quarterfinal. Despite Soloveychik opening all three sets with one-game leads, both women spent the entirety of the match fending off all advances after Eisenman's set one win. After taking the lead at two, Eisenman rallied five in a row, stunning Soloveychik with a 6-1 set.
Set two was a different story. Going game for game, Soloveychik held Eisenman to a continual one-point deficit until Eisenman managed to tie the set at five and take the lead. Soloveychik fought off two match-point attempts by Eisenman on her serve at 5-6 prior to tying the set at six. Down 3-0 in the second-set tiebreak, Soloveychk clawed her way to a 7-5 tally to extend her chances at the title with a third and final set with the 7-6 (7-5) set victory.
Mirroring the middle set, Eisenman was initially at a disadvantage with Soloveychik's lead, but her struggles did not last long. The pair exchanged games but this time around it was Eisenman with the flipped script. The set was tied up three times before Eisenman won two in a row and was named the 2025 National Champion with a 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 final score.
Soloveychik ends her season just eight wins away from crossing the 100-career wins threshold with 92 overall wins.
