Stephanie Yanosov Announced as Head Women’s Tennis Coach at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Wesleyan University has announce that Associate Head Coach Steph Yanosov will take the reins of the women's tennis program as its new head coach, succeeding Mike Fried, who is stepping aside to return to his alma mater Brown University as the head men's tennis coach. Yanosov's appointment marks an exciting moment of continuity and ambition for Cardinal tennis.

A decorated leader and strategist, Yanosov enters her fifth season at Wesleyan, where she was promoted to Associate Head Coach in the summer of 2023. Her impressive accolades include being named ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2024, as well as earning the ITA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year honor in both 2022–23 and 2023–24.

"Steph has been instrumental in the continued success of our women's tennis program," said Mike Whalen, the Frank V. Sica Director of Athletics. "Her work ethic, competitive fire, and ability to connect with our student-athletes make her the right person to lead us forward. I have complete confidence she'll continue building on the incredible foundation she helped create."

Since joining Wesleyan in 2021, Yanosov has been a key force in the program's dominant run:
  • 2021–22: Guided Wesleyan to a 23-1 record, a perfect 10-0 NESCAC regular season, and an NCAA semifinal appearance.
  • 2022–23: Led a Top-5 ranked team to a 19-2 finish, a fourth consecutive NESCAC title, and an NCAA quarterfinal.
  • 2023–24: Piloted the Cardinals through a 22-0 season to the NCAA National Championship match, finishing as national runners-up.
  • 2024-25: Led a Top 10 ranked team to a 20-4 season, NESCAC runner-up finish, and a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Jackie Soloveychik '27 also finished as the NCAA runner-up in the singles championship.
In total, the Wesleyan Women's Tennis team boasts a remarkable 82-7 mark during Yanosov's tenure.

A former four-year letterwinner at Quinnipiac University, Yanosov contributed to the Bobcats' 2018 MAAC Championship and NCAA appearance. She combines elite playing pedigree with coaching expertise, having honed her teaching skills at Lake Naomi Tennis Center during the summers of her undergraduate years.

"Stepping in as head coach is an incredible honor," Yanosov said. "I want to thank Athletic Director Mike Whalen and Coach Mike Fried for their trust in me and continued support. Coach Fried has built something extraordinary—driven by hard work, teamwork, and a standard of excellence. My goal is to maintain that momentum, to elevate every student-athlete, and to challenge our team to consistently compete at the very top of Division III."

Yanosov holds a bachelor's degree in legal studies from Quinnipiac, where she was recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, MAAC Scholar-Athlete, and a Dean's List student throughout her college career.
