HADLEY, Mass. – In a vote by the NESCAC coaches, Middlebury’s Kyle McCausland was named the NESCAC Player of the Year while Ryan Grecco of Colby and Owen McHugh of Williams were selected as NESCAC Co-Pitchers of the Year. Also earning individual awards were Amherst’s Ryan McIntyre, the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year, and Colby’s Myles Gythfeldt, the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Middlebury head coach Mike Leonard was voted the NESCAC Coach of the Year by his peers.
McCausland is the NESCAC Player of the Year for the second time in his career (2023) and earns a spot on the All-NESCAC First Team for the third year in a row. McCausland is one of two Panthers to play in all 38 games this season and leads Middlebury in hits (49), RBI (47 – 1st in the NESCAC), runs (36), and homers (12 – 1st in the NESCAC). The outfielder, who owns a .711 slugging percentage and a 1.177 OPS, had a two-run homer in the championship game versus Williams during a rally which saw the Panthers erase a 6-4 deficit and take a 10-6 lead to win the NESCAC title for the second consecutive season.
Grecco is the first Colby pitcher to earn the NESCAC Pitcher of the Year honor. He also earned a spot on the All-NESCAC First Team for the first time in his career. The senior led the Mules’ pitching staff with a 2.72 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP in 53 innings of work. Grecco ranked second among NESCAC pitchers in strikeouts (53) and wins (5). He posted a 5-3 record, highlighted by a nine-inning, three-hit, complete-game 2-0 win against Wesleyan in the opening game of the NESCAC Quarterfinal series.
McHugh is the first Williams pitcher to be selected as the NESCAC Pitcher of the Year. The sophomore also earned a spot on the All-NESCAC First Team for the first time in his career. McHugh finished the year with a 2.27 ERA to lead all NESCAC pitchers and tied for second in strikeouts (53). McHugh made nine appearances, working 39.2 innings, and posted a 3-1 record for the Ephs.
McIntyre is the third Mammoth to be named NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year and earns All-NESCAC honors for the third time in his career. The senior posted a .961 fielding percentage on 103 total chances and turned a team-leading 18 double plays in 2025. Offensively, the infielder hit .344 with 42 hits, including a team-best four homers, 31 runs scored, and 27 RBI. McIntyre helped the Mammoths earn the No. 2 seed in the West and qualify for the NESCAC Tournament for the fifth year in a row.
Gythfeldt is the second Colby player to garner NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors (Nick Spillance, 2006). The newcomer ranked second among the conference leaders with a .408 batting average, posted a .480 on-base percentage, and a .957 OPS. Guthfeldt knocked out 53 hits, second in the NESCAC, and drove in 32 runs for the Mules while also collecting 13 stolen bases.
Leonard was voted as the NESCAC Coach of the Year by his peers for the second consecutive year and third time in four seasons. Leonard guided the Panthers to back-to-back NESCAC titles and their fourth conference championship overall. Middlebury earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will make its fifth appearance in the championship.
