Tufts' Gyimesi Selected to Academic All-America® Men’s Basketball Team

MEDFORD, Mass. - Tufts University junior Scott Gyimesi has been nationally recognized for his athletic and academic achievements with a selection to the 2024-25 Academic All- America® Men's Basketball teams announced by College Sports Communicators.

Named to the Academic All- America® Second Team in Division III, Gyimesi is one of 15 individuals in the nation to receive the honor and is the 33rd men's basketball player in the NESCAC to garner the recognition. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

An economics major from Fair Haven, New Jersey, Gyimesi carries a 3.91 grade point average. He was named one of 10 finalists nationally for the 2025 Jostens Trophy, which is presented annually to the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year. The award focuses on three major criteria: basketball ability, academic prowess, and service to one's surrounding communities.

A junior captain, Gyimesi was the second-leading scorer (15.3 points per game) and team-leader in rebounding (9.9) and field goal percentage (.585) for the Jumbos this season. Head coach Brandon Linton's team won 22 games, second-most in school history, and were selected to the NCAA Tournament as a first and second round host.

An All-NESCAC first team honoree for the second straight season, Gyimesi earned a D3hoops All-Region second team selection for the second consecutive year as well. His 14 double-doubles ranked 13th among NCAA DIII players, and he was among the Top 25 nationally in field goal percentage and rebounds per game. As a sophomore, he had led Tufts' 2023-24 NCAA Sweet 16 Team in scoring (13.1) and rebounding (11.0).

Gyimesi has earned Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team honors twice, has been a NESCAC All-Academic Team member twice (3.50 GPA+) and has been on the Dean's List at Tufts every semester. He has participated with the Tufts Real Estate Society, the Tufts Investment Club and the Tufts Ballroom Dancing Club. In addition to his economics major, Gyimesi has Finance, Architectural Studies, and History minors.

He is also a Civic Life Ambassador for the team, leading the Jumbos' civic initiatives, including helping to organize and run a charity 3v3 tournament for Team IMPACT. He has volunteered at Greater Boston Food Bank, participated in the Tufts Day of Service (community cleanup) and is a member of the university's Orthodox Christian Fellowship.
