NESCAC Player of the Week
Chester Boynton – Hamilton – So. – IF – Concord, Mass.
Boynton knocked out 11 hits and posted a .478 average with a .609 slugging percentage and .533 on-base percentage in a 5-2 week for the Continentals. Boynton scored nine runs, drove in five, doubled, tripled, walked four times, was hit by a pitch, and stole four bases. The sophomore finished with a career-high four hits, including a triple and a walk, and scored the go-ahead run in a 7-6 win against Knox. Boynton hit a bases-clearing double to break a 2-2 tie and finished with four RBI in a 15-4 victory against Worcester State.
NESCAC Pitcher of the Week
Connor Podeszwa – Tufts – Sr. – P – Waterford, Conn.
In Game 2 of a doubleheader against Whittier, Podeszwa pitched nearly a complete game, going eight inning in a 1-0 loss to the Poets. The senior scattered eight hits over eight innings, struck out five batters, and did not allow a run.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Justin Orridge (Toronto, Ontario) batted .526 with a .591 on-base percentage and a .632 slugging percentage in a 3-3 week for the Mammoths. In a 16-12 win over Framingham State, Orridge was 5-for-5 with a walk, a double, three RBI, and three runs scored. The rookie went 9-for-10 with two walks and two doubles over his final three games in Florida … In his first collegiate start,
Yoon Chae (Virginia Beach, Va.) threw 6.2 innings and earned the win in a 7-5 victory over Southern Maine. Chae allowed six hits and walked two while striking out six batters. The sophomore left the game with a 7-1 lead and was charged with just one run and it was unearned.
Bates –
Keagan Ryan (Salem, N.H.) hit his first home run of the season on Tuesday, going 2-for-3 at the plate against Saint Joseph's College (ME). The sophomore followed that up by smacking a single, drawing two walks, and stealing two bases in a doubleheader Saturday against MIT …
Diego Sarabia (Mableton, Ga.) turned in a quality start against MIT, allowing one earned run in six innings pitched against the Engineers. The junior scattered six hits and walked just one batter while striking out four.
Colby –
Myles Gythfeldt (Ridgefield, Conn.) went 6-for-10 at the plate in three games last week, running his hit streak to 10 games. The rookie collected his first three-hit game of his career against Kalamazoo, going 3-for-4 with a double and run scored to follow his 2-for-3 performance against Husson. Gythfeldt is batting .457, ranking fifth in the NESCAC …
Matt Higgins (Norwell, Mass.) made his fourth relief appearance of the season in the 5-2 win over Husson. The newcomer entered in the sixth inning with a three-run lead and threw four scoreless innings, allowing zero hits and striking out seven while walking only two batters for his second save of the year.
Hamilton –
Ethan Righter (Fairfield, Conn.) earned a win and a save in two scoreless relief appearances for the Continentals. Righter threw the last two innings as Hamilton rallied for a 10-6 victory against Keuka. The sophomore allowed one hit and three walks and fanned three to get the victory. Righter pitched the ninth inning of a 7-6 triumph against Knox, issuing one walk and striking out two batters. Righter has yet to allow a run in 6.1 innings this season.
Middlebury –
Carter Chi (Cerritos, Calif.) led the team in a five-game week in California, averaging .400 at the plate. The rookie paced the team in walks (4) and slugging percentage (.667) while also being tied for the team lead with six hits. Chi had two triples over the five games, including one in the ninth inning that plated two Panthers to help Middlebury rally from seven runs down to defeat Chapman in the opener of a three-game series sweep. The rookie also led the team with 13 assists in the field …
Reed Hyde (Darien, Conn.) recorded his first career save in a 7-6 triumph at Chapman in Game 1 of the doubleheader. After striking out a batter in the bottom of the eighth, Hyde stayed in the game for the ninth. With runners on second and third with one out, the rookie sealed the save, striking out two in a row to give the Panthers the victory.
Trinity – Senior
Jake Leonard (Wyckoff, N.J.) helped propel the Bantams to an 8-4 victory over Saint Joseph, going 2-for-4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored. Leonard launched a three-run home run to put the Bantams on top, 3-2, and added an RBI double in the fifth to regain a 4-3 lead, en route to the 8-4 win.
Tufts – Senior
Cooper Smith (Eden Prairie, Minn.) paced the Tufts offense throughout the latter half of their West Coast trip. The first baseman racked up seven hits and three RBI to help the Jumbos earn wins over Whittier and Chapman. Smith made no errors in the five games the Jumbos played last weel.
Wesleyan –
Jonah Timmons (Dallas, Texas) recorded three straight multi-hit games for Wesleyan as the sophomore went 7-for-13 (.538 average) from the plate in his three starts with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored. He went 2-for-4 and 2-for-3 in two games against Macalaster and finished with a 3-for-6 showing against Hamline … In his first career start, rookie
Cole Perkin (Wenham, Mass.) tossed six innings of three-hit ball, recording 11 strikeouts with no walks to pick up his first career win in a victory over Macalester.
Williams –
Ryan Nakajima (Bothwell, Wash.) hit .500, with four RBI, four runs, one home run, one triple, and one double, in a 3-1 week for the Ephs. The sophomore went 3-for-3, with two RBI, two runs scored, and one home run, in a 6-3 win in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Sunday against SUNY Purchase in Davenport, Florida. Nakajima finished 3-for-5, with two runs, one triple, and one double, in a 7-6 nine-inning victory at Mount Saint Mary College Wednesday in Newburgh, New York. Nakajima maintained a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage during the four games, with 11 putouts on 11 total chances …
Lucas Brandt (Cleveland, Ohio) earned his first collegiate win, going six strong innings as the starter and giving up only one earned run and one walk, while striking out eight, in a 6-3 win over SUNY Purchase. The newcomer also retired the side in order in the eighth inning in a the victory at Mount Saint Mary College.
