Men’s Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week | Weekly Release
John Weigel – Bates - Jr. – Iowa City, Iowa
Weigel had a breakthrough meet for the Bobcats at the Maine State Invitational. The junior won the 200 IM (152.5) and 200 freestyle (1:40.4), both with impressive touch-outs and both meet records. Weigel also placed second in the 100 freestyle with a lifetime best swim of 44.9. He was at his best for the team with the fastest splits on the 200 and 400 free relays (19.75 and 44.09). Weigel also tried out the 50 backstroke and led off the 200 medley relay with a 22.7 split, helping the team post the seventh-best time in Division III.
Women’s Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week | Weekly Release
Sophie Phelps – Williams – Fy. – Nantucket, Mass.
Phelps delivered a standout performance with seven first-place finishes. The rookie swept all three of her individual events, winning the 100 freestyle (51.19), the 200 freestyle (1:50.37), and the 200 IM (2:02.32). Phelps was also part of four victorious relays, recording a 22.79 split on the 200 freestyle relay, a 22.96 freestyle leg on the 200 medley relay, a 51.18 split on the 400 freestyle relay, and a 50.30 freestyle leg on the 400 medley relay.
