Colby Returns to NCAA Quarterfinals for First Time Since 2005

For the first time since 2005 the Colby Mules are headed to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Quarterfinals. Colby earned a five-set win over host Wesleyan to reach the Elite 8 round.

Tufts bowed out to the NCAA Tournament falling in four sets to No. 1-ranked East Texas Baptist University.

The Mules are the first NESCAC team to reach the quarterfinals since the 2021 campaign. The remaining rounds of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament (quarterfinals, semifinals, final) will be hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. The remaining eight teams will be seeded by the Division III Women’s Volleyball Committee after the completion of the regionals.

Trailing 2-0, the Colby Mules recorded a reverse sweep to earn a 3-2 victory. Colby earned a 25-21 win in the third set to slice Wesleyan’s lead in half and posted a 25-22 win to even the match at 2-2. In the deciding fifth set, the Mules took a 6-3 lead and extended it to 10-4 following an ace by Brady Moseley. Colby maintained a comfortable lead during the rest of the set to earn the victory, avenge and 3-1 loss to the Cardinals during the regular season, and improve to 26-3. Moseley posted a double-double with 17 kills and 18 digs and was one of four Mules to reach double figures in kills. Gabby Grujic (33) and Sydney DeProfino (34) combined for 67 assists while Alli McKenney posted a team-high 23 digs. Sophia Lindus (18 kills, 13 digs) and Mila Chan (15 kills, 16 digs) paced the Cardinals offensively. Wesleyan wraps up the season with a 22-4 record.

East Texas Baptist, the top ranked team in the country, remained unbeaten, improving to 34-0 with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 26-24) victory over Tufts at Cousens Gymnasium. Trailing 2-0, the Jumbos avoided the sweep with a 25-21 victory in the third set. In the fourth, Tufts forced extra points. The Jumbos trailed 23-21, but came back to take a 24-23 lead on an attack error by ETBU. The Tigers responded with three straight points to secure the 26-24 set win and the match. Maiwenn Kamdje led Tufts with 11 kills and had six blocks. Graycee Mosley was one of three Tigers to post double digits in kills with a match-best 16. ETBU advances to the national quarterfinals, while the Jumbos, the NESCAC Champions, close out the season with a 24-6 record.
