Three NESCAC Teams Advance in NCAA Volleyball Tournament

Colby, Tufts, and Wesleyan all earned first-round victories to advance in the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament.

  • 7:00 p.m. – Kean at Tufts
  • 7:00 p.m. – Ithaca at Wesleyan

Colby def. Marymount (VA), 3-0 | Box Score
Colby improved to 24-3 with a decisive 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-12, 25-21) of Marymount in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in a match played on the Wesleyan University campus. The Mules opened the first set of the match with a 9-2 spurt and never looked back. Colby limited Marymount to a -.147 hitting percentage while the Mules posted a .239 hitting percentage. Brady Moseley paced Colby with seven kills, three aces, and a team-high 10 digs. Ingrid Zahn and Kendall Glover combined for seven of the Mules’ 10 blocks in the game. Gabby Grujic recorded 16 assists with two aces. The Mules play Babson on Friday at Wesleyan.

Tufts def. Bridgewater State, 3-0 | Box Score
Tufts cruised to a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-10, 25-13) of Bridgewater State at Cousens Gymnasium in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Maiwenn Kamdje led all players with 10 kills while hitting .450 for the match. Rianna Liu and Ellery Clark combined for 30 assists and five aces for the Jumbos. Matsa Shi posted a game-high 10 digs. With the victory, Tufts improves to 23-5 on the year and will face Kean in the second round on Friday.

Wesleyan def. NYU, 3-1 | Box Score
Wesleyan and NYU split the first two sets, but the Cardinals posted wins of 25-14 and 25-15 to finish out their NCAA first-round match with a 3-1 victory. Sophia Lindus paced Wesleyan with 15 kills and was one of three Cardinals to reach double-digits in kills. Ali Landa handed out 17 assists and posted 10 digs. Wesleyan recorded 17 blocks and nine service aces in the match. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 21-3.

Franklin & Marshall def. Williams, 3-1 | Box Score
Williams suffered a 3-1 loss (19-25, 20-25, 25-11, 20-25) to Franklin & Marshall in its NCAA first-round match at MIT. The Diplomats took a two-set lead, but the Ephs dominated the third set to avoid the sweep. In the fourth set, with the score tied at 12, Franklin & Marshall used a 6-3 spurt to take a 19-16 lead. Williams scored four straight points to retake the lead, 20-19, but the Diplomats closed the match with a 6-0 run to earn the victory. Chi Obi (11) and Maya Thompson (10) reached double-digit kills for the Ephs. Morgan Daetz led Williams with 21 assists, and Eve Kaplan posted a game-high 19 kills.
