NESCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Patience Kum - Amherst – Sr. - F – Takoradi, Ghana
Kum had a hand in six of the Mammoths' eight goals last week, a 2-0-1 stretch. The senior scored Amherst’s goal in a 1-1 tie with Springfield on Tuesday, had one goal and two assists in a 4-0 win over Bates, including a helper on the game-winner, then added one goal and one assist, including a helper on the game-winner again, as the Mammoths blanked Colby, 3-0. Kum is tied for the league lead in goals (4) and is the conference leader in assists (5) and points (13).
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Bates – Rookie
Eleanor Martin (Oilville, Va.) scored the first goal on the new Russell Street Field turf last Monday, going top shelf to give the Bobcats an early lead against Maine Maritime Academy. Bates went on to win 2-0 for its fourth victory of the year, already exceeding last year's win total.
Bowdoin - First-year
Jackie Shores (Arlington, Va.) gave Bowdoin an early lead with a goal at 14:13 of the contest against Hamilton on Saturday.
Colby -
MK Marshall (Pomfret Conn.) made four saves in a 1-0 setback against Williams on Saturday. The junior added two more stops against Amherst on Sunday and has totaled 12 saves across her last three conference matches.
Connecticut College - Senior goalkeeper
Ella Kahrl (Wellesley, Mass.) has started every game in net this season for the Camels and continued her strong play with 12 saves across two contests last week. The senior picked up one win, in a week when Conn. College went 1-1-0. On Tuesday, in a 2-1 win over Eastern Connecticut, Kahrl notched five saves, before stopping a career-high seven saves on Saturday against Middlebury.
Hamilton -
Erin Rayhill (New Hartford, N.Y.) broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 75th minute and lifted the Continentals to a 2-1 win at Bowdoin. The goal was Rayhill's first this season and the 11th of the senior's career.
Middlebury –
Abby Ward (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) led Middlebury to a 2-0 week, helping the Panthers extend their unbeaten streak to eight. Ward dished out an assist on Middlebury’s first goal against Connecticut College on Saturday, before adding an insurance tally to secure the 2-0 victory. The midfielder leads Middlebury with eight points (3G, 2A), which is already a career-high in a season for the senior.
Tufts – Junior
Caroline Kelly (Southborough, Mass.) was a dynamic force for the Jumbos last week. The midfielder won defensive battles and helped the Jumbos regain possession frequently at No. 3 MIT. Minutes into the second half, Kelly stepped up and scored off a free kick against the Engineers to push Tufts’ lead to 2-0. Against Wesleyan, Kelly was a constant presence on the pitch in her 72 minutes of game action.
Wesleyan - Senior forward
Katie O'Connell (North Kingstown, R.I.) netted both game-winning goals in a 2-0 week for the Cardinals. O'Connell scored on a penalty kick in a 1-0 road win at Western Connecticut on Wednesday and followed with the game-winner, as the Cardinals overcame a 1-0 deficit to land a 2-1 home win over Tufts on Saturday.
Williams – Senior
Tori Huang (Arlington, Mass.) scored both game-winning goals in 1-0 wins in a 2-0-0 NESCAC weekend for the Ephs. She buried the game-winner in the 55th minute in a 1-0 win at Colby on Saturday and tallied the game-winner in the 17th minute during a 1-0 triumph at Bowdoin on Sunday. Huang has four goals this season, all of which have been game-winners.
