NESCAC Player of the Week
Dylan Schnitzer - Trinity - So. - OF/C - Huntington, N.Y.
Schnitzer knocked out 11 hits, including three multi-hit games and a career-high six hits, including four doubles and a three-run homer, in Game 3 against Bowdoin. The sophomore totaled 11 RBI, with seven runs scored in a series victory against the Polar Bears. Schnitzer, who also stole two bases, concluded the week with a .611 batting average and slugged 1.000 with an on-base percentage of .682 while maintaining a season average of .411.
NESCAC Pitcher of the Week
Justin Lessing – Middlebury – P – Westport, Conn.
Lessing tallied his fifth straight win on the mound, and third consecutive complete game to help Middlebury sweep Wesleyan to lock up the top seed of the NESCAC West. In the middle contest of the series, Lessing held Wesleyan to a .091 average, and allowed just two hits over seven innings, while striking out 11. The outing marked the second double-digit strikeout performance by the Panther. Lessing concluded the regular season leading the NESCAC with a 0.89 ERA, while being the only pitcher to allow single-digit runs (5). The junior’s five victories are tied for first in the conference and he sports a perfect 10-0 career mark.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – In a 5-0 week for the Mammoths that included a sweep of rival Williams,
Jack Sampedro (Miami, Fla.) batted .583 (7-for-12) with an on-base percentage of .737 and a slugging percentage of 1.083. The junior walked six times and did not strike out once in 19 plate appearances. Sampedro drove in seven runs over four starts, scored eight runs, stole a base, and knocked out a double, triple, and a grand slam home run over the week. In addition, Sampedro picked up two saves from the mound without allowing a run, totaling 4.0 innings. The right-hander saved a 4-3 win over Brandeis by pitching a hitless ninth inning, then picked up a save in a 10-3 win over Wiliams by throwing three scoreless innings.
Bates –
Ben Genser (Newton, Mass.) hit safely in all five games last week, plus finished off a suspended game from April 13 in style at the plate against Bowdoin, going 3-for-4 with a run scored, five RBI, a double, and a home run. The junior had three multi-hit games last week, going 2-for-4 with an RBI against Husson on Tuesday, 2-for-2 with two RBI, a double, and two walks in a 9-3 win over Colby on Friday, and 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double at Colby in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. Genser is hitting a team-leading .358 on the season with an .831 OPS.
Sam Hough (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) tossed seven innings of two-run ball in a 9-3 victory over Colby on Friday. The senior allowed just six hits while striking out four in the win. Hough threw 112 pitches in one of the best performances of his collegiate career.
Bowdoin – Sophomore
Lukas Tsai (Fair Lawn, N.J.) enjoyed a fantastic week at the plate as the Polar Bears went 3-2 in NESCAC contests to secure the third seed in the East Division. Tsai batted .588 (10-17) with seven runs scored and four RBI, including four extra-base hits, and his first career home run in a victory over Bates. Tsai is second in the conference in batting this spring (.443).
Colby –
Noah Reichman (Frontenac, Mo.) continues to charge the Mules at the plate. The senior collected hits in all four games last week, hitting safely in 12 of the last 13 games. Reichman accounted for all five runs in Saturday's 5-0 win over Bates, scoring the opening run of the game in the second inning before breaking it open with a two-out grand slam in the fifth.
Thomas Rioux (Derry, N.H.) pitched a complete-game gem Saturday in a shutout victory over Bates. The sophomore executed his longest outing of the season at seven innings to put the Mules back in the win column, scattering seven hits while striking out five. Rioux moved to 5-0 as the Mules completed their fourth NESCAC series win of the season.
Hamilton – Senior
Charlie O'Brien (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in the Continentals' lone game last week, an 11-4 setback against Rochester. O'Brien has hit safely in seven straight games with four multi-hit performances during the streak. In the Continentals' lone game last week, junior
Jack Eshleman (Collegeville, Pa.) pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief in an 11-4 loss against Rochester. Eshleman allowed one hit and struck out two.
Middlebury – Junior K
yle McCausland (Wellesley, Mass.) helped Middlebury secure the top seed of the NESCAC West, propelling the Panthers to a sweep at Wesleyan. McCausland averaged .583 at the plate, with five runs on seven hits over the series. The Panther recorded a double, triple, and pair of home runs, and led the team with seven RBI. McCausland climbed to second on Middlebury’s career list with 123 RBI and 24 round-trippers.
Trinity – Senior
Ian Brown (Tampa, Fla.) pitched a solid 8.0 innings in the 9-2 victory over Bowdoin to secure the first win of the three-game series. Brown threw 119 pitches, striking out nine Polar Bears while allowing only six hits and two runs to cross the plate.
Tufts – Senior
Ozzie Fleischer (Fort Worth, Texas) had a strong week, as the Jumbos extended their win streak to six with a 3-0 week with wins over Wheaton and a doubleheader sweep of Clark on Saturday on Senior Day. Fleischer was 5-for-8 with two RBI, two runs, and hit .625 for the week. Senior
Silas Reed (Brookline, Mass.) posted another brilliant start on Saturday, as the right-hander allowed just three hits over eight innings, earning the win in a victory over Clark. Reed struck out six and walked none while allowing no runs in the victory.
Williams –
Mike Giove (Berlin, Conn.) went 7-of-14 batting, with five RBI, five runs, two home runs, one triple, and one double, in four games last week for the Ephs. The senior went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, one triple, and one double, during a 12-4 win at Bard on Tuesday. In Game 1 of a doubleheader at Amherst Saturday, Giove finished 2-for-3 at the plate, with one home run, one RBI, and one run scored. Sophomore
Teddy Massingham (Duxbury, Mass.) retired the side in order during the ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts during a 12-4 win at Bard on Tuesday. During the Game 1 of a doubleheader at Amherst Saturday, Massingham went the first four innings, giving up six hits, three runs, and two walks.
