NESCAC Player of the Week
Cole Palmeri - Colby - Sr. - C - Hamilton, N.J.
Palmeri led Colby to five straight wins last week in Florida, ending the trip with a 7-1 record. In a pair of wins over Williams, the senior went 5-for-6 with three home runs, 10 RBI, five runs scored, and four walks. In the first matchup against the Ephs, Palmeri hit home runs in his first two plate appearances as the Mules fought back from a 5-1 deficit. The catcher’s grand slam in the eighth inning walked off the 15-5 victory. On the week, Palmeri hit .500 at the plate with an on-base percentage of .609. Palmeri’s season OPS stands at 1.625 after 16 games.
NESCAC Pitcher of the Week
Jack Eshleman - Hamilton - Jr. - P - Collegeville, Pa.
Eshleman struck out a career-high 14 batters in a complete-game effort in the Continentals' 4-3 win in nine innings against Middlebury on Friday. Eshleman allowed just two hits and hit a batter as all three runs were unearned. The junior improved his record to 2-0 this season.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Ryan McIntyre (Larchmont, N.Y.) continued a blistering pace at the plate, batting .471 with a .500 on-base percentage and slugged .824 in four games in a 2-2 week for the Mammoths. Of McIntyre’s eight hits, four went for extra bases (2 doubles, 2 triples). The junior drove in seven runs in four games and scored five times.
Nick Giattino (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) allowed one hit over six innings in his lone start of the week, a 5-1 win over Wesleyan on Saturday. The senior walked five and struck out six in the victory, retiring the side in order three times in his six innings of work.
Bates –
Jack Brennan (West Hartford, Conn.) hit .400 with three doubles and a triple and scored three times during a three-game series versus Trinity. Brennan also reached base three times via walks or hit-by-pitches. In the field, Brennan helped turn four double plays last week at shortstop for the Bobcats. The senior is batting .333 through 16 games and owns a team-leading .513 on-base percentage.
Micah Sheats (Niwot, Colo.) earned the save in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Trinity, a 6-5 win for the Bobcats. The junior tossed two scoreless innings against the Bantams, allowing just one hit and striking out one. It marked the first save of Sheats' collegiate career.
Bowdoin – Junior
Kevin Murray (Stony Point, N.Y.) batted .500 for the Polar Bears in three games last week, including two RBI and three runs scored. Murray is batting .388 and slugging .633 with a team-best 14 RBI this year for Bowdoin.
Colby –
Derek Woods (Rye, N.Y.) helped Colby to six consecutive wins and a 7-1 record on the Florida trip. The sophomore started on the bump against Kalamazoo, settling in for 3.2 innings and allowing one earned run as the Mules upended the Hornets 12-8. Against DePauw, the sophomore threw two no-hit scoreless frames in relief as Colby erased a two-run deficit to upend the Tigers, 3-2.
Hamilton –
Jackson Sattinger (Port Washington, N.Y.) hit .438 with a double and two home runs in a 1-3 week for the Continentals. Sattinger scored three runs, drove in two, stole four bases, and reached 100 career hits. The senior went 4-for-4 with a solo home run and stole three bases in a 4-3 win against Middlebury on Friday. Sattinger added another solo shot against Oswego State.
Middlebury –
Kyle McCausland (Wellesley, Mass.) batted .667 at the plate to help Middlebury take both ends of a doubleheader against Hamilton on Saturday to earn the series win (2-1). The Panther belted three doubles, including two in a 9-8 extra innings triumph in the series finale, and tallied a trio of RBI and a stolen base on the day. In a 3-1 week, McCausland led the team with a .429 batting average, while moving into fifth place on Middlebury’s all-time RBI list with 95 for his career.
Andrew Gatland (Western Springs, Ill.) helped Middlebury take both ends of a doubleheader against Hamilton on Saturday, earning a win on the mound to open the day and a save in extra innings in the nightcap. Gatland had a perfect 0.00 ERA in 2.1 innings pitched while striking out a pair of batters. The senior improved to 4-0 this season and picked up his second save of the year. In the four straight games Gatland has played in, he has recorded three wins and a save.
Trinity – In Game 1 against Bates,
Sean Meth (Port Washington, N.Y.) hit a single deep to right center logging two RBI in an 11-4 victory. Earlier in the week the senior went 11-for-11 in putouts in the loss against Westfield State. At the plate, Meth began the week going 2-for-4 against Westfield State then went 3-for-9 versus Bates with four RBIs, two walks, a stolen base, and scored three runs. The senior is hitting .344 on the season.
Ian Brown (Tampa, Fla.) went 5.1 innings in an 11-4 win in the series opener against divisional opponent, Bates. The senior struck out five, allowed five hits, and three earned runs.
Tufts - Junior center fielder
Henry Fleckner (Weston, Mass.) helped the Jumbos to a pair of NESCAC wins at Bowdoin on Saturday, as Tufts was 2-1 for the week. Fleckner was 6-for-13 with two doubles and a homer (.462), scoring five runs and ripping off a stolen base. Fleckner was also 1-for-4 with two runs and a double against UMass-Boston on Wednesday and exploded in Game 2 against Bowdoin, going 4-for-5 with a double, homer and three runs scored. Senior
Silas Reed (Brookline, Mass.), the top starter for the Jumbos pitching staff had another great outing on Saturday in a doubleheader sweep of hosts Bowdoin College. In Game 2, Reed allowed no earned runs over six innings (two unearned), struck out six, and scattered six hits.
Wesleyan -
Ernie Little (Melrose, Mass.) recorded a hit in all four games last week for Wesleyan, extending his hit streak to eight straight games. Little went 6-for-13 (.462) at the plate with two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a sacrifice fly. The sophomore totaled a team-leading six RBI while hitting his first home run of the season in a win over St. Joseph (CT). Against the Blue Jays, Little went 2-for-3 with a homer, four RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs scored. Versus Amherst on Saturday, Little went 2-for-3 with one double, one run scored, and one walk as the Cardinals won 7-5 to take the weekend series against the Mammoths.
AJ Karabenick (Tampa, Fla.) turned in the best outing of his career on Friday, throwing a career-high nine innings with just one run allowed as the Cardinals opened NESCAC play with a 5-1 win at Amherst in a game that was decided in 10 innings. Karabenick allowed five hits and one walk while striking out seven batters in nine innings to pick up the win. Karabenick allowed two base runners in his final four innings of work, keeping the game tied head into extras.
Williams –
Sasha Palma (Williamstown, N.J.) went 7-of-13 (.538) at the plate, with six RBIs, one triple, one double, and one run, during four games for the Ephs last week. The sophomore went 3-for-3 batting, with two RBI and one triple, against Colby Friday. Palma finished 2-for-4, with three RBI, one double and one run scored, against Purchase on Wednesday.
Teddy Massingham (Duxbury, Mass.) pitched three innings of relief and did not allow a single earned run against St. Olaf on Tuesday in Auburndale, Florida. The sophomore recorded a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth.
