NESCAC Player of the Week
Ryan McIntyre – Amherst – Jr. – SS – Larchmont, N.Y.
McIntyre batted .314 in seven games for the Mammoths, who won their final five contests of the week to go 5-2. McIntyre drove in 14 runs and scored eight times over the seven-game stretch. The junior had one double, one triple, and two home runs and a slugging pct. of .571. In a 9-6, 10-inning win over Framingham, McIntyre hit a walk-off, three-run homer run in the bottom of the 10th. In the shortstop’s first at-bat of the next game, McIntyre homered again in an 11-6 win over Worcester State. In the second game versus Worcester State, McIntyre capped a 13-run rally with a walk-off double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh while going 4-for-6. He was also 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts over seven games.
NESCAC Pitcher of the Week
Gavin Brown – Tufts – Gr. – P – Bradenton, Fla.
Brown tossed a strong complete-game shutout against Whittier on Saturday in the Cardinals’ spring break finale. The graduate student worked all seven innings allowing three hits and striking out seven. Brown walked just one as he helped the Jumbos to a 10-0 win over the Poets.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Tyson Luna (Houston, Texas) went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA over three appearances last week, as the Mammoths won their final five games in Florida to close the week with a 5-2 mark. Luna allowed just one hit while walking one and striking out five over 5.1 innings of action. The junior held opposing batters to a .059 average.
Bates –
Henry Prince (McLean, Va.) had a big week in Arizona for the Bobcats, going 4-for-9 at the plate. The newcomer tallied his first collegiate hit on Tuesday against Wesleyan, delivering a pinch-hit two-RBI triple and followed that up by going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI in a win over Carleton College. To cap off the week, Prince hit his first collegiate home run Friday against Redlands. Prince scored three runs and drove in five runs for three games. Three of his four hits were extra-base hits.
Luke Linnehan (Hingham, Mass.) turned in the longest and best performance of his collegiate career last Monday in a 7-1 win over Carleton College. The senior tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out three. Linnehan's performance earned him the victory, improving his record to 2-0 on the season and lowering his ERA to 3.26 through four starts so far this season.
Bowdoin – First-year
Rudy Gately (Wrentham, Mass.) tossed a complete game, allowing one earned run in a Game 1 victory of a doubleheader against Loras on Tuesday, and senior
C.J. Brito-Trinidad (South Kent, Conn.) had four hits in the twin bill sweep as the Polar Bears finished their Florida trip with a 7-3 mark, their most successful southern trip since 2016.
Colby – Senior
Cole Palmeri (Hamilton, N.J.) had a monster weekend at the plate to open the trip south for the Colby Mules. Palmeri tied the school record of 20 career home runs. The catcher went 6-for-9 (.667) at the plate across three games with three home runs and two doubles, scoring seven runs and knocking in another seven. Palmeri is batting .500 on the season and owns an OPS of 1.618. In Sunday's victory against Augustana, Palmeri hit round-trippers in his first two plate appearances and was intentionally walked in his next three trips to the dish. Palmeri’s 20 career home runs tie him with Jason Buco '15 who led the NESCAC in homers his junior and senior seasons.
Ryan Grecco (Andover, Mass.) made two appearances in Colby's opening weekend in Florida. Versus Ramapo, Grecco worked one inning and struck out two of the four batters he faced. Against Augustana, the junior pitched 5.0 innings in relief allowing two hits, no earned runs, and recorded three strikeouts.
Hamilton –
Michael Tallarida (Philadelphia, Pa.) went 2-for-2 with a walk, a triple, and a sacrifice fly in an 11-1 win against SUNY Canton. Tallarida drove in three runs and scored one. The sophomore, who has hit safely in five straight games, has at least one extra-base hit in each of those five games and has driven in 11 runs during that time.
Jack Eshleman (Collegeville, Pa.) picked up his first win this season in the Continentals' 11-1 victory against SUNY Canton. Eshleman pitched all seven innings and struck out a career-high 11. The junior allowed one earned run on just two hits and a walk.
Middlebury – Senior
Mitchell Schroeder (Brookline, Mass.) hit .519 while starting in all seven games during Middlebury’s spring break trip. The Panther tallied a team-high 14 hits, including three doubles and seven RBI. Schroeder’s best performance came in the week's final game, going 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a double for a 15-3 win over Kalamazoo. The infielder leads the team and ranks in the top 5 in the NESCAC in batting average (.488) and on-base percentage (.593). Senior
Andrew Gatland (Western Springs, Ill.) improved to 3-0 on the mound with a pair of victories last week. The Panther struck out 11 batters over 8.0 innings and leads the team in ERA (4.50).
Trinity –
Tyler Griffin (Milford, Conn.) tossed seven innings against the visiting Wheaton Lyons in the non-conference matchup with a game ERA of 1.29 registering the 16-6 win. The senior recorded seven strikeouts, allowing four hits, and three runs while walking only two runners. Griffin is currently 1-1-1 in the season.
Tufts –
Henry Fleckner (Weston, Mass.) had a strong week for the Jumbos, who went 3-2 in the final five games of their spring break trip to California. For the week, Fleckner was 9-for-20 (.450) with two homers and a team-high nine RBI, while also stealing three bases. Fleckner posted a hit in all five games, as he was 2-for-5 with three RBI and a homer in a win over La Verne on Tuesday. The junior added a 2-for-4 day with a walk and a stolen base on Friday, before going 3-for-4 with three runs and a homer in Game 1 on Saturday. In the second game, he drove in three runs while posting a 1-for-4 game.
Wesleyan –
Ernie Little (Melrose, Mass.) posted a .600 batting average in four games last week, going 9-for-15 at the plate with eight stolen bases, one triple, five RBI, and six runs scored, leading the Cardinals to a 3-1 record. The sophomore opened with his first career four-hit game, going 4-for-6 with one triple, two steals, three runs, and one RBI as Wesleyan defeated Carleton 13-11. Little had a big day against Bates, going 2-for-3 with three walks, two steals, two RBI, and three runs. For the week, Little had a .667 on-base percentage as he piled up four walks (one intentional), one hit-by-pitch, and two sacrifice hits. Sophomore
Matt Spada (Westport, Conn.) continues to throw well, going four innings in relief to pick up his first career save in a 22-11 win over Bates. Entering the sixth inning, Spada only allowed one run on two hits and one walk with four strikeouts, holding the Bobcats scoreless over the final three innings of a game where Bates scored 11 runs.
Williams –
Henry Juan (Big Flatts, N.Y.) went 12-for-25 (.480) batting, with seven runs scored, three RBIs, two doubles, and one home run, in six games last week for the Ephs. Juan recorded two or more hits in five of the six games. The catcher finished 3-for-4 batting, with three runs scored, one home run, one double, and one RBI, in a 4-3 victory over Lawrence on Tuesday in Davenport, Fla. The junior went 3-for-5 in the batter's box, to go along with two runs scored and one RBI, in Game 1 of a doubleheader against SUNY Maritime on Thursday. Rookie
Jake Jeffries (Charlotte, N.C.) earned his first collegiate win in a complete-game seven-inning 9-2 win over SUNY Maritime. In Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Privateers Jeffries allowed two runs and three hits.
