NESCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Abigail Jarvi – Colby – So. – F – Gilford, N.H.
Jarvi scored three goals last week, two of which were game-winners, and guided Colby to the NESCAC Semifinals for the first time since 2006. In the regular season finale against Bates, the sophomore scored twice in the second half, first to knot the score at 1-1 and again 10 minutes later to lift the Mules to victory. In the conference quarterfinal against Williams, Jarvi scored six minutes into overtime to propel Colby into the NESCAC Semifinals and give the Mules 10 wins on the year, tying the program record for most wins in a season.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Abby Schwartz (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored twice last week, including the game-winning goal versus Middlebury in a NESCAC Quarterfinal. The senior’s goal in the 22nd minute stood up as the Mammoths advanced to the semifinals with a 1-0 victory. It was Schwartz’s second game-winning goal of the year. The senior also scored a goal in a 5-0 win over Trinity in the regular season finale. Schwartz’s six goals are second on the team this season.
Bates –
Lily Houser (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored a goal in her final collegiate match last Wednesday at Colby. The senior finishes her career with four goals in 47 matches.
Bowdoin - Junior goaltender
Charlotte Iannone (East Williston, N.Y.) made nine saves in the Polar Bears’ final game of the season last Tuesday against Tufts.
Connecticut College - Senior goalkeeper
Ella Kahrl (Wellesley, Mass.) ended her career with two incredible performances against Wesleyan, totaling 19 saves. On Tuesday, in the regular season finale, Kahrl recorded a career-best eight saves, as Conn. earned a crucial 1-1 draw, to help the Camels earn a spot in the NESCAC Tournament. On Saturday, in the NESCAC Quarterfinal, Kahrl helped the Camels give everything top-seeded Wesleyan could handle, setting a new career-high in saves with 11, in a 1-0 setback.
Hamilton –
Nieve Tonna (Huntington, N.Y.) made seven saves in the Continentals' 1-0 setback at Tufts in the NESCAC Quarterfinals. It was the sixth time in 11 starts this season Tonna stopped seven or more shots in a match. The junior is second in the NESCAC in saves per match and third in save percentage.
Tufts –
Elsi Aires (Westborough, Mass.) had a productive week for the Jumbos, totaling two goals and an assist across two games. The junior opened the scoring at Bowdoin to give the Jumbos a one-goal lead and assisted a second goal in the second half to ice the game at 2-0. Aires scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win in the NESCAC Quarterfinals, a simple strike off of a great run in behind the Hamilton defense, to propel Tufts into the NESCAC Semifinals. Aires leads the team in scoring with nine goals.
Wesleyan – Junior
Molly Brumbach (Montclair, N.J.) recorded her ninth clean sheet of the season, making four saves in a 1-0 overtime win for Wesleyan over Conn. College in the NESCAC Quarterfinal round on Saturday.
Williams – First-year midfielder
Lily Mark (Wenham, Mass.) opened up the scoring with her first-ever collegiate goal in the 23rd minute in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Tournament Saturday afternoon against Colby.
