NESCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Stefanie Stoj – Wesleyan – Jr. – F – Vernon, Conn.
Stoj led Wesleyan to a pair of 1-0 victories in NESCAC play as she scored both Cardinal goals. The junior started with a tally in the 47th minute, which proved enough to lift Wesleyan past Trinty, 1-0. Stoj followed up with a left-footed strike from just inside the box in the 68th minute that sealed a 1-0 win over Williams. That goal against the Ephs broke Williams' six-game shutout streak.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – First-year
Caroline Coletti (Carlisle, MA) scored the game-winning goal in a 4-1 win over Western New England last week. It was her third goal of the season.
Bates –
Grace Gesmondi (Narragansett, R.I.), a defender and team captain, scored her first goal of the season and the second of her career on Saturday against Tufts. In the 72nd minute, the senior unloaded a 30-yard direct kick over the mitts of the Tufts goalkeeper and into the net to cut the Bates deficit to 2-1.
Bowdoin - First-year
Jackie Shores (Arlington, Va.) scored all three goals last week in a pair of NESCAC matches as the Polar Bears fight for a spot in the NESCAC Tournament. Shores scored twice in a 2-1 win at Bates on Wednesday, including the game-winner with 10:51 remaining. On Sunday, with Bowdoin trailing Trinity late in the second half, Shores found the back of the net with 12:18 to go, securing a 1-1 tie for the Polar Bears. The rookie has scored four goals in Bowdoin's last five NESCAC games.
Colby -
Kylie Thorp (New York, N.Y.) anchored a Colby defense that secured shutouts against Middlebury and Husson. The junior defender played almost the entire match against Middlebury and helped defend 11 shots and four corners versus the Panthers and held them scoreless for only the second time all season. Thorp made several key tackles and transitioned defensive possessions into attack opportunities as the Mules out-shot Middlebury 15-11. The scoreless games mark the sixth and seventh shutouts of the season for the Mules.
Connecticut College - Senior goalkeeper
Ella Kahrl (Wellesley, Mass.) continued her strong run of play in net, helping Conn. College to a 1-1 week. On Monday, at Johnson & Wales, Kahrl tallied her second highest save total of the season, turning away five shots from the Wildcats. On Saturday, Kahrl helped the Camels to a crucial 1-0 win over Hamilton, recording her second clean sheet of the year, while adding three stops. With eight saves last week, Kahrl raised her season save percentage to .750.
Hamilton –
Isabel Harvey (Rye, N.Y.) scored for the Continentals in a 2-1 setback at Union. The rookie is tied for the team lead with five goals this season.
Middlebury – Senior
Carolyn Kelley (Westborough, Mass.) helped Middlebury preserve a pair of scoreless draws over last weekend, stopping all 12 shots faced. The Panther recorded a career-high 10 saves against Colby, with eight of those coming in the second half. Kelley owns a .312 goals against average which currently ranks third in the NESCAC.
Tufts –
Nicola Sommers (Branford, Conn.) made a huge impact on the pitch last week, helping the Jumbos win both their games with a 5-0 victory against Regis and a 3-1 win at Bates. Sommers scored twice against Regis, including the first goal of the game which came within 10 minutes of the opening whistle. The graduate student scored again in the second half versus Regis, making it her first multi-goal game of the season. Sommers added an assist on the Jumbos’ opening goal against Bates.
Williams – Goalkeeper
Margaret Huelin (Farmington, Conn.) made five first-half saves against No. 6-ranked MIT on Sunday at Cole Field. The junior made one save and did not give up any goals in the opening 45 minutes at No. 19 Wesleyan on Saturday.
