Summer Spotlight: Frankie Silva - Trinity Women's Basketball

Frankie Silva has been a consistent performer at both ends of the floor for the Trinity College women’s basketball team for her entire career.  She was a three-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree and came back from a season-ending injury in her junior season to earn back a starting role on the Bantams’ NCAA Quarterfinal squad in 2022-23.  Silva averaged 4.4 points and 3.7 rebounds, dished 48 assists, and knocked down 21 three-pointers in her final campaign this past winter.

Silva maximized her time on campus in so many ways. The public policy & law major was on the Executive Board of Trinity’s Athletes of Color Coalition and played a role in the promotion of community outreach initiatives such as: Hartford SINA Art Garden Cleanup, hosting the Hartford Boys and Girls Club on campus for a field day, and street clean ups in the area and more.  Silva was a member of the Calculus Project, which strives to increase the number of students of color and low-income students who excel in calculus.  Silva was particularly impactful through her work as a policy/advocacy intern for The National Organization of Sisters of Color Ending Sexual Assault (SCESA), whose mission is to create a just society in which all women of color can live healthy lives free of violence.

Silva participated in Zoom calls that included Senate members and Senate staff and contributed to the successful reauthorization of The Violence Against Women Act of 2022. She observed the different provisions of the bills that had to be negotiated so they could pass the Senate. One of the vital provisions taken out of the bill was the boyfriend loophole, which would allow someone who was convicted of domestic violence to own a gun. She wrote an op-ed on this provision to raise awareness on the issue and it was published in the Connecticut Mirror.

At home, Frankie volunteers at a Boston inner-city public school with elementary students that have newly arrived in the U.S. and had limited or informal education in their home countries. Silva has interned at Massachusetts Trial Court where she observed housing procedures, and criminal and civil trials in the Boston area. She has begun a full-time position in Boston with Fenway Sports Management as a partnership sales associate.
