HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC announced its 2022-23 men’s golf awards. Hamilton first-year Ramon Aroca Gonzalez was voted as the NESCAC Golfer and Rookie of the Year by a vote of the head coaches and Middlebury head coach Bill Beaney was named NESCAC Coach of the Year.
Aroca Gonzalez, who also earned All-NESCAC First Team honors, is the fifth golfer in NESCAC Men’s Golf history to garner both awards in the same season and the first since the 2016-17 campaign. Aroca Gonzalez was a medalist at five events this season and tied for sixth (76-35-111) at the NESCAC Championship which was shortened to 27 holes due to weather. He is the second straight Continental to garner Player of the Year honors, joining teammate Billy Geach, and the fourth Hamilton golfer overall. Aroca Gonzalez is also the fifth Continental to be named Rookie of the Year.
Beaney, who will retire at the end of the academic year after 36 years of coaching at Middlebury, was selected as the NESCAC Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his career by his peers. He also garnered the honor in 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2021. Beaney guided the Panthers to their 10th NESCAC title at Martindale Country Club in Auburn, Maine on April 30 and they earned a spot on the upcoming NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, May 16-29.
