AUBURN, Maine - Williams shaved 11 strokes off its first-round score to win the NESCAC Women’s Golf Qualifier hosted by Bates at Martindale Country Club. The Ephs finished with a two-day total of 599 (304-294) and earned the right to host the NESCAC Championship on May 4-5, 2024.
All five Ephs in the lineup shot 80 or better for the second round led by Gio Kim’s two-under 69 which marked the lowest round over the 36-hole event. Kim improved her first-round score (80) by 11 strokes on the final day.
The top four teams from the qualifier advance to the NESCAC Championship. Joining Williams will be Amherst, Hamilton, and Middlebury. Amherst (611) completed the final round with a team score of 307 after posting a 304 total on Day 1 to maintain second-place in the team standings. Hamilton, which entered the final round with a three-stroke lead, placed third (301-313-614) and Middlebury (319-321-640) grabbed the final spot in the championship field, edging Bowdoin (316-325-641) by one stroke.
Williams sophomore Euna Lee posted the low round on Day 1 (72) and added a final round 73 to claim medalist honors with a two-day total of 145. Amherst’s Jessica Huang recorded back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish one stroke back (146) and Hamilton’s Sofia Weinstein finished third (74-73-147). Kim (80-69-149) and fellow Eph teammate Emma Abramson (75-77-152) rounded out the top five individuals.
In addition to the four teams that advanced to the NESCAC Championship in the spring. The top four individuals outside of the qualifying teams are also eligible to play in the spring tournament. Those individuals are Bowdoin teammates Shivani Schmulen, Ocean Park, and Muzi Wei as well as Wesleyan's Mia Holbrook.
