A captain for the 2021 Amherst College baseball team, Joseph Palmo led the Mammoths on the field and in the classroom during his time in the Pioneer Valley.
A two-time All-NESCAC selection, Palmo displayed his versatility during his senior season as he transitioned to catcher and twice claimed NESCAC Player of the Week distinction en route to once again earning All-NESCAC honors in 2021 for the NESCAC Champion Mammoths. Landing inside the top-three on the Amherst squad and inside the top-20 in the league in every hitting category, the Austin, Texas native used five multi-hit games to register 14 total hits and 16 runs while batting .326 in his final season. Palmo finishes his career appearing in 82 contests, including 80 starts, and boasted 94 hits and 55 RBI while going 18-for-20 on stolen base attempts.
Off the field, Palmo is a three-time NESCAC All-Academic Team selection and graduated from Amherst in May with a 3.72 GPA as a double major in physics and astronomy. A 'Linear Algebra with Applications' and 'Data Science with Astronomical Applications' teaching assistant, Palmo also previously interned with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and authored a senior thesis on solar system formation.
