Trinity Finishes 25th at NCAA Men's Golf Championship

WHEELING, W.Va. - Junior Jacob Steckler shot a 153 to tie for 71st on the leaderboard and lead the Trinity Bantams to 25th place at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, W.Va.  The Bantams finished with a team score of 622 (+58), which was two strokes shy of 24th-place Sewanee and nine better than 26th-place Catholic.

Trinity was tied with Trine and Trinity (Texas) for 22nd place after the first round, but did not make the final cut of 18 teams after two rounds of action. Illinois Wesleyan won the NCAA title for the second consecutive year with a team score of 1155 (290-286-287-292). The Titans finished 13 strokes ahead of runner-up Methodist University. Will Hocker of Webster shot an even-par round of 71 on the final day of competition to win the individual national championship with a four-day total of 285 (69-72-73-71).

Steckler fired a 72 (+2) to a tie for 13th on the leaderboard after the first round of play on the par-70 Palmer Course. Bantams sophomore Max Edminster was four strokes behind Steckler with a score of 76, while senior captain Ricardo Leme shot a 79, sophomore Nicholas Li shot an 82, and junior Maahin Gulati finished at 85.

Li paced the Bantams on Day 2 with a 75 to finish with a two-day total of 157 and tied for 118th. Steckler shot an 81 and finished as Trinity's lowest scorer for the tournament (72-81-153), while Edminster and Leme both shot a 79 during the second round. Gulati improved five strokes from yesterday with an 80 today, closing at 165 and 155th among individuals.
