Why did you choose to attend Williams?
After touring Williams and interacting with students it was clear to me that this was a place I could call home for four years. The campus was beautiful and the people were welcoming. I felt pretty strongly that I would find my community here at Williams.

Why did you choose to be a Division III student-athlete?
I chose to be a Division III student-athlete because I love baseball and I wanted a great education. The opportunity to play baseball at Williams was an opportunity to have both an athletic and academic experience. Division III athletes have the ability to continue to participate in the sport they love while getting a strong education and having the chance to prepare for a career.

What is the best thing about being part of the NESCAC?
The best part of the NESCAC is the opportunity it provides student-athletes to be well-rounded people. The NESCAC is an extremely competitive conference athletically, but athletics is not the only priority of the institutions. Being a part of the NESCAC allows us the opportunity to compete at a high level, be strong students, to be involved in our communities, and to participate in other extracurricular activities.

What is your dream job/career?
My dream career is working in baseball research and development. With my background in statistics and economics and my passion for baseball I think working behind the scenes would be an incredible experience.  I have always loved the game and I would love to continue to be around baseball for my career.

What has been your favorite class outside of your major?
My favorite class outside of my major was modern architecture. I’ve never been much of an art person but I thoroughly enjoyed learning about architecture and how it is both artistic and functional at the same time. My father studied architecture in college so it was really cool to talk to him about it too.

Who is your favorite professor?
This is not an easy question, I have had some really incredible professors at Williams. If I had to pick one, I would say Professor Steven J. Miller. I did not have Professor Miller for a class until sophomore year, but I began working with him my first year after I was pointed in his direction as someone who was interested in baseball. In all four years at Williams, Professor Miller has worked really hard to facilitate baseball research for me and a bunch of other students. He has made sure that we had important experience with a topic that interested us.

What internships/research projects have you participated in?
I interned with the New York Mets as part of the business intelligence and analytics department in the summer of 2019. I got to learn a ton about applying statistics to real world problems while also improving my coding skills. It was also really useful to get to work in a business environment and see how it functions.

What has been the most interesting part of your major?
I think the most interesting part of the statistics major is learning how to understand the world differently. Statistics has opened a ton of avenues to dive deeper into data with new techniques. Sometimes the work can reveal relationships that were unexpected and potentially really useful.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned from being a student-athlete?
The greatest lesson I’ve learned from being a student athlete is how to be a part of a team. It is very rare for people to end up in situations in which they don’t interact with others in life. Being a part of a team teaches us how to work towards a common goal while taking care of our own responsibilities like our coursework.

What advice would your 2021 self give your 2017 self?
The advice I would give my 2017 self would be to be more open to new opportunities. While I have been certain for a long time that I wanted to work in baseball, I’ve learned a lot from experiences with non-profits, startups, and other businesses. It’s really important to be very knowledgeable in one thing but it is also really important to be a well rounded employee and person.
